I'm very keen as I think he ticks a lot of boxes with his ability to play multiple positions.

Commitment seems to be a slight issue, however with Macca in his ear, I'd like to think we could get him very cheap and have something really special on our hands.

A mate of mine who follows the Eagles said he doesn't have a good attitude and decides when to try, leading to him being inconsistent at WAFL level. Is very talented though. But still a no from me.

Could a Brendan McCartney or Simon Goodwin change his attitude? who knows. 

His 193cm tall and has a huge engine and the ability to work up and down the ground. Can push into the midfield and be the bigger body midfielder so he does have a few tricks up his sleeve.

Lamb has family ties to the footy club with his father playing for the club a number of years ago. 

Had issues focusing on school in his last year as he knew he was going to be drafted and seems to have continued that trend....

If he can mature a bit with his outlook on footy and life he could be a handy pickup

I know those highlights packages can be deceiving but he did not look very good at all, one game in two years for West Coast isn't great either.

haha yea, took the highlights 1 minute and 19 seconds for him to hit a target by hand, and 1 minute 30 ish to hit a target by foot. I was actually laughing that it was called highlights. Second half of the video he gets more of it on target. But it was mostly lose player down back or on wing, or on a small defender.. SO really the highlights show us nothing and we have to go on WAFL form.

Yeah shocking in the high pressure game down at Geelong, much better across half back in that game at Etihad.

3rd tall defender is where I'd play him. Give him an opponent to work off instead of struggling to get in to games at half forward. 

The knock on him pre draft was consistency and sounds like that hasn't changed over in the west.

If you were our recruiter then we'd have 77 players on the list.  You seem to be 'all for' half of the VFL listed players and any other AFL level player that can't get a run in the seniors.

Also, those highlights don't exactly paint him in a great light.  It would be fair to argue that he has been behind some quality tall backmen at the Eagles over the last few years, but we don't need blokes at our club who struggle to apply themselves.  We need competitors and he clearly isn't one of them.

One could divide his highlights reel up into cutlets, ewe might say.

Lamb can play. He is a decent player. Is an ideal type to target if we can get him cheaply. There will be kids around the 3rd round that could also be good pick ups, so I don't know what I would give for Lamb. We can't give all of our picks away. In recent times we've been successful with some of these late picks.

To be fair, not every player i've either started a thread on or commented on is one that i necessarily want to recruit, more so players that i think are worth looking at.

Main reason for so many young state league players/fringe young players in other teams lists is that given it's a reasonably shallow draft and we likely wont be coming into it until around pick 40 odd.

Someone like Lamb orJosh Watts for me are low risk, high reward type recruits. They're young (both just completed their 2nd year on an AFL list) with plenty of upside who haven't reched their potential for different reasons. Lamb (work rate/commitment) Watts (injury/poor development).

Right environment with someone like Macca or Jennings as mentors could do the world of good to them. And better yet, if it doesn't we'd likely be able to cut them after one year as DFA's rather then two years for a kid picked 80 odd.

And for the record I can say that the players I'm most keen on are:

Hibberd (2nd round pick), Tom Lamb (DFA or trade for late pick), Luke Lowden (DFA, fills 2nd ruck/fwd need), one of Harvey or Dal Santo (DFA, experienced mid).

Try and get 3 picks inside the top 50 by trading out Dunn & Garland and bring in Steven Sliming & Brennan Cox who represented SA in the U18's, Spilling an outside mid/hb with pace and Cox a young key defender. And Darcy Cameron from Claremont in the WAFL. Another 2nd ruck/fwd to compete with Lowden. 22 next year I believe.

Then at rookie draft i'd seriously consider Dan Allsop from the Stingrays as I doubt he'll last till our category B rookie spot. Young quick crumbing fwd. Tyler Keitel grom West Perth in the WAFL. 21 next year I believe and named at Full Back in the WAFL team of the year. We'll be light on for tall backs. And finally Josh Watts who was delisted by Brisbane who similar to Lamb is a utility who could play the Garland role. Looks to take the game on.

Obviously my opinions may change as to who I think will be a good fit pending who the recruiters look to be targeting over the free agent/trade period and if Hogan were to request a trade. But they're the players I'm keen on at the moment.

Lamb is hugely talented but his work ethic is not up to standard.   Only consider as a delisted free agent or draft pick 81.

This is where I begin to disagree.  Clearly you watch a bit more local footy than I do, as you have more understanding of the WAFL, SANFL etc, but those two names you mention above are below what we should be aiming for.  The same goes for Josh Watts.  These guys have done nothing to suggest that they'll make it at AFL level, and I would rather see us take a punt on a kid that we can work with from scratch than those you've mentioned.

Luke Lowden completely baffles me - he has failed at 2 clubs, so why would he fill our ruck/fwd need?  He wouldn't get near a senior game with us.  Your aim is really, really low there.

Lots can happen, and I will always give you credit for the thought and time you put into it, but I think you need to raise the bar in terms of the players we need to get into the club.  Those mentioned, to me, are not upgrades on what we currently have.

Fair enough Wiseblood. We're obviously at a point in the club where we're looking to raise the bar of what/who we should look for.

Sounds like we'll have to agree to disagree with some of the players mentioned, and that's fine as it creates healthy debate. I guess my point of view with guys like Lamb is that it gets in talent (and the kid has serious talent) at minimal cost in a weak draft year where we're lacking picks. Lowden who at Adelaide was behind the Jacobs/Jenkins combo is playing good SANFL football and I think of guys like Ceglar who was cast out by Collingwood or Jenkins who was traded for peanuts by Essendon as examples of big men who have been cast off at one club and gone on to do well at another.

As I said earlier though,  my thoughts on many of these players could drastically change however come Friday morning next week if there's an announcement of Hogan wanting a trade to Freo for Fyfe and Melbourne taking Zac Clarke as a free agent.

Who knows what will happen?

Good size, excellent kick, big tanks, bad attitude. I'd take him for the right price, because he is a real talent. 

Also, for those worried about the highlights, the games down at Geelong that year had a 6 goal wind to the right of screen. Those kicks are not indicative of his skill.

The thing you don't see is the things he did in the tac.  I haven't watched him since drafted.  But I recall he has talent, some height & some x factors.  Maybe it runs in his family, as his older brother is also talented, but maybe not as much, but also has not lived it yet?

193cm, excellent tank, solid skills. Kicked 6 in a TAC game once, had over 30 touches in other games.

That versatile skill set would be really handy if he made it. Footy smarts is still probably the most important thing in a player and team but versatility has helped the Hawks and the Dogs are another side that use it to advantage. Similarly tall midfielders are on the rise, as is the importance of intercept marking all over the ground.

Sometimes its a matter of waiting for them to mature.  Sometimes you can wait too long? 

But keep on backing talent, & we can't go too far wrong, as long as we have a strong & healthy culture within our club for players to develop in.

If the FD see something in a bunch of guys at other clubs, who haven't made it, at their clubs, I am prepared to back them in, as we need improvement.

Getting rid of guys from our list, who can't add anything and trying others from other clubs, is one of the ways of regenerating a list.

We need 2-3 good pick ups a year, in draft, trade, FA's etc.

If you count Hibberd as 1, we would on average need 2 more this year.

Where they come from, who cares.
