Interested to hear how you know Kobe has the ā€œtalent and the tricksā€ SONS, as he canā€™t have produced many if he was not selected at the draft.

Talent and and the draft arenā€™t mutually exclusive! ESP this yr due to no exposed form for many of the kids... look at Jeff, heā€™s the prime example and was even at an AFL club and traded for nothing (Phil Gilbert) and then lured back by the SAME club that traded him. Kobe has shown the talent he has already ask around. What he needed to show and by all accounts is doing so, is his work-rate & perseverance!

He was overlooked in the draft so father-son rule is out the window now.

Can Freo even sign him if hes training with us?

Can but wonā€™t. Clubs usually only take players training with them as itā€™s entire point of not using pick at draft - ie wanna see them at the level first Ā

letā€™s let one the best rec teams in the land decide if he is worth it maybe... cool

I was asking SONS how he knows that Kobe has the "talent and the tricks", as it obviously hasn't been demonstrated to date if you can believe the draft. While i certainly hope he is the goods, in contrast,Ā some people who have seen him play have saidĀ that he is very average in terms of underage skills.Ā You obviously don't know the answer to that question either Nudge, as all you can tell me is to "ask around". Well i was asking around and nobody can confirm if in factĀ he does have the "talent and skills" or is it simply a case of wishful thinking by the original poster (and perhaps you). If you do know then please enlighten us all. (I note that SONS hasn't responded to my question, norĀ Dazzledavey36's similar question).Ā

From the video content, he looked smart around goals and quick on the loose footy. But heā€™s stats in the Colts were low (av around 9 possessions) but good in terms of tackles average 5. It was an opinion which we all are entitled. I hope the Son of Wiz makes it. Would be a great story. Not saying he is a world beater but perhaps like his old man, he can bring some excitement. Ā

Itā€™s a supporters board. Not always to throw dirt at fellow Demon fanatics. Some posters seem to want to just target others just to get their thrills.Ā

SONS that you for your response.Ā

Like all DL's, I am really hoping that Kobe makes the grade. All the evidence to date however does not suggest that. So when you stated KobeĀ had "the talent and the tricks" it sounded as though you had evidence to the contrary which we all would have welcomed. Hence my question. There was no "dirt" thrown at you, nor was I targeting you "to get my thrills". I simply wanted to know whether your statement was based on factĀ or simply yourĀ opinion. No problem either way, but thanks for clarifying.Ā

This is an opinion board, and as you rightly say, everyone is entitled to express their opinion. The problem for me isĀ whenĀ  opinion is disguisedĀ as fact (unintentionally or not), which in your case (particularly as you are a creditable poster), builds up hope in the reader that may not in fact be warranted.Ā Ā

Ā Ā

Thatā€™s the point. It wasnā€™t facts I was quoting. Facts is he kicked x goals. Ā He played x games It was an opinion. Talent and tricks. I think Kobe has the ability. Ā The club is giving him the opportunity which I hope he embraces.Ā

Yes I wasnā€™t quoting facts to be argued or dismissed. It was opinion. Ā I hope Kobe gets the chance. Ā Thanks for your post to clarify too. Us demonlanders have to stick together.Ā

Yes I am perhaps an optimist which appears to be rare on our board. We have been battered and bruised as Dees fanatics but we rise again and again year after year. Letā€™s hope 2021 is our year.Ā

Heā€™s been overlooked in the draft by every other club. He wasnā€™t a stand-out for the Colts. If he didnā€™t have the name Farmer on his back I doubt we would have looked twice at him.

Maybe heā€™s a late developer and we strike gold. It would be a great story for sure but the odds are against. Letā€™s see how he goes but I wonā€™t be getting my hopes up.

It's only a rookie spot, so it's worth a crack. If he doesn't improve then we part ways. But I'd like him to have the year to prove his worth. Next year Woey's son is in the draft and I hope we take him too. He's supposed to be very good.

Much as I agree we have at least two spots on the squad that are now vacant due to injury (Hore) and retirement (KK), Iā€™m just saying that injuries can come up on a club quite suddenly if not carefully planned for. If Kobe gets the opportunity heā€™ll have earned it (the hard way), seeing Goody with him at training on Twitter has me feeling he will get a rookie spot.Ā

we have 3 spots on the list and all are unrelated to KK, we left two open for train on players and i think the club was eager to carry one over to the MSD due to the Covid affected victorian footy a lot of kids will have slipped through and now Hore's ACL has opened up a third spot potentially giving us the chance to sign Farmer and Deakyn Smith and still have that mid year pick

Serious question to those here who don't think Wiz Jnr should get a spot on our list:

Who would you give the spot to instead? I really don't see the harm in having him on the rookie list next year to see how he goes. We ain't gonna win a flag anytime soon without making at least some high risk/high reward moves ...Ā

You don't give a spot on your list to someone that is not up to standard.Ā  I have no idea if this kid can play, he meets a need that we have but he needs to be up for to it.

The club doesn't need to rush the call, we can have him do a complete pre-season, see him in intra-club and maybe a couple of Casey pre-season games, or if still uncertain have him play at Casey and pick him up in mid season draft.Ā Ā

There are a number of players that missed out on being drafted that could have been if they played footy last year.Ā  There could be some real bolters available in the mid season draft, I'm a bit of a fan of at least leaving 1 pick for this draft.

I could reel off 10 names from the draft/state leagues that missed out who had far greater impact, but are imo better players in general then farmer.Ā

Please do so....

Sure.

Xavier Maher

Murray Bushrangers. 185cm inside mid with power and acceleration from the contests who is able to break away from packs with speed and use the footy well. Was part of the AFL Academy program and was tipped to go inside 25 in the draft. Worked with him back in the under 16's. Currently training with Carlton. Melbourne showed interest pre draft.

Liam Kolar

Northern Knights. 195cm utility who a bit like Rosman is a freakish athlete who plays mostly down back, but was training in the midfield group over the summer with the potential of playing the wing role. Has high level of speed and endurance and another who was tipped to go top 30. Pretty sure who it was Richmond who showed strong interest. Will no doubt get another fair go in the under 19s program.

Kaine BaldwinĀ

Glenelg Tigers. 194cm strongly built key forward who last few years has been ruined by knee injuries. His under 16's championships was elite to the point that he was then talked about a potential top 5 draft prospect. Since then he's had two knee reconstruction.Ā

Sam Fisher

Swan Districts. 22 year old mature age player who had an outstanding season in the WAFL this year and averaged aboutĀ averaged 26.9 disposals (ranked 2nd in the WAFL) and 7.5 clearances (3rd) per game. He won the Sandoval medal by playing as an inside/outside midfielder and has an immense running power that is able to run his opponents to the ground. Who was someone I personally hope that we would invite to train. Would put enormous pressure on our mids, and show them what two way running is all about.

Rhyan Mansell

Eagle SANFL. One bloke who i thought was extremely stiff to miss out in the draft. 182cm rebounding defender who came from tassie and had a consistent season with the eagle. Great skills by foot but also his ability to read play and use his great strength with his intercept marking. Currently training with Richmond. I hope he gets picked up.Ā

Henry Walsh

Geelong Falcons. 204cm tall 18 year ruckman who also was part of their AFL Academy Program.Ā He is a good player at ground level and wins a number of clearances with his follow-up work. He was expected to have a huge role at state and NAB League level, but hasnā€™t been able to show how much he has developed in 12 months. Watch for him in the under 19s program coming up this year. Needs to add a few kilos but.

Jackson Callow

195cm Strongly built 18 year oldĀ forward from Tasmania who again was extremely stiff to miss out. He is a contested marking beast who again came through the AFL Academy Program. I would have loved either him or Baldwin to be invited for a train on over the summer just to see how they would go in a professional full time environment.Ā  Kicked 24 goals in 14 games as a bottom age player in the NAB league back in 2019. Will be keeping a close eye on him this year.

I've named 7 players so far @jayceebee31Ā @Baghdad Bob. Happy to keep going??

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullartonā€™s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Caseyā€™s three matches and, with Melbourneā€™s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next weekā€™s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forwardā€™s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasnā€™t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the teamā€™s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourneā€™s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season.Ā There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight.Ā Since that game, the Demonsā€™ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ā€˜G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sundayā€™s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
