Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well silly season is now officially upon us so lets get the thread back on track.

With Hibberd hopefully on board theres been whispers on here that we are looking at Barlow, Josh Watts and Tom Lamb. Can't think of any more but one i wouldn't mind having a look is Koby Stevens for up graded depth on the Newtons Michies and Matt Jones.

I still think we'll be keen to get back into the first round this year if at all possible.

Amazing that Hamling was a cats reject and now a premiership player and a huge part of why the dogs won, shows smart recruiting can make all the difference.

Many at the cats were against the delisting of Hamling, and the decision to this day brings about some angst in certain people. Always showed the work ethic and desire to succeed, religiously studying his edits. Late bloomer & showed gradual improvement. Great kid.

You'd never guess he'd never worn shoes til he was 15.

Absolutely! based on yesterdays performance and the age/form of Taylor and Lonergan, i can imagine they'd feel like they'd made a mistake there.

When they let him go, there was no room to give him a senior game though. He probably would have left for opportunity anyway. Value buy for the dogs.

Then again, even at the dogs he has struggled to get into the team but for injuries, although he looks like he belongs (and excels).

You want to spend currency on upgrading depth?  FM, are you trying to win Casey a GF?

I'd love to be selling Encyclopedias to you.  What say we try and improve the best 22 first.

To improve your best 22 you also need to continue to improve your depth (censored). Did you not learn anything over the last 2 weeks when the doggies won the VFL granny and then yesterday.

It only takes an injury to Jones Tyson and Viney and we'll be left with a huge hole.

We've also been linked to Tom Cutler, who seems a likely type and many Brisbane supporters rate in their best 22.  If we can orchestrate a trade of Dunn for Cutler we should make out like bandits.  Josh Watts and Tom Lamb are likely to come pretty cheaply/free.

I think Goodwin's priority will be locking in Hogan and the rest of our young guns rather than trying to attract any other name players (Hibberd aside).

Perhaps he considers like I do that Koby Stevens is not an improvement on the depth

Well then who is? I said Koby Stevens because he tore Casey apart in the grand final and has already played 70 plus games so at least he has experience and a bigger body to come in when a Tyson Brayshaw or Viney go down.

OK - that's enough for you two.

IMO a list needs a core of about 30 players who are AFL standard and another 10 who are either young draftees and/or players that could make the 30 in the future.

From Wiki:

Tom Cutler (born 8 November 1995) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Cutler was drafted by the Lions with pick 33 in the 2013 AFL Draft.[1] He made his debut againstPort Adelaide in round 4 of the 2014 season.

Cutler grew up in Balwyn, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, supporting the Brisbane Lions as a child. He played for the Greythorn Football Club, winning multiple club and league best & fairest awards. At the age of 16, he stopped playing club footy to concentrate on school football for Trinity Grammar, and to play basketball, at which he also excelled.

Cutler had an injury ridden 2013 with the Oakleigh Chargers, although when he was available he impressed recruiters with his elite decision-making and athleticism.

Tom debuted in Round 4 of 2014 against Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval. Despite getting thumped by the Power, Tom had a respectable debut. He went on to play 7 games for the year, his best of which being a 21 disposal effort against Richmond at the Gabba in Round 5. His debut season was cut short due to injury, soon after being omitted from the side mid-season, suffering from a groin injury and then having minor knee surgery. He is expected to be fit for a full pre-season with the Lions.

I think Koby Stevens is like maybe Matt Jones and Dean Terlich, can fill a role at AFL level, but better at VFL level, we have BenKen, Michie and Newton who at the moment are all still on the list who can all fill the role, personally would prefer another couple of young guys to develop

Wouldn't get us back into the 1st Round, although would have us close to it. Is there a chance (I'm not saying I'm for or against) that we'd trade our 2017 1st Round Pick to Essendon for Hibberd & Pick 19?

Eeeekkk much as I like the fact that we seem to be getting Hibberd, the mail seems to suggest our second round pick will be sufficient, think Essendon don't need the hassle, I don't think we would have traded away our first round pick if we were that desperate to stay in the first round

Had a similar convo the other week with bro-law ( ex pie player ) Res of family all gung ho  Pies Pies Pies...etc.. b-i-l  only one to suggest that Pies will slip..and badly next year. Or to put it another way....run fast on the spot, going nowhere.  An interesting observation was that if Bucks relents and starts bringing in top ups then its an admission that hes not getting the goods out of his current crop...( and NEVER will )

I laughingly put it the Pies are the new successors to Richmond. He thought 9th would be a hard get for the pies next year.. Reckons we should get used to the idea of years of finals.  I replied...DAMN !!  ( smuggly, amongst a sea of cold pastries !! )

What is the feeling about Scott down there, Mach? Are they ready to go for someone else now? Or will they keep backing Scott? I feel like both Scott's will be out of the game in 2-3 years time.

From what I can glean and if all are still on the list, this is a listing of players who Goodwin and the coaches see rotating through the midfield going forward and that includes the ruck and wing

Jones, Viney, Oliver, Tyson, Melksham, Vince, BenKen, Bugg, Hunt, Garlett, Salem, Petracca, Brayshaw, Newton, Michie, Hogan, Harmes, Watts, Gawn...probably forgotten somebody............reckon with Hibberd coming in we will use other picks on young kids unless Taylor has found a gem somewhere again

I agree. Unless Stevens is a big upgrade on BenKen and Bugg, and I'm not sure he is, then I'd rather draft some kids.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
