This is  typical AFL they do no forward planning. This event has been know for over a year but as usual they wait till the decision is handed down and then say. Ok what do we do now. Oh we need a plan, can't do much till the next commission meeting as we need their guidance. Oh is that six weeks away. 

Ok what's next what is the price of pies going to be in 2017?

Unless it is screwing a supplier then as you say they don't really want to do it.

Also the rumoured lost picks would have been 15 and 37. They probably  could have negotiated that. They still had pick 2 and a lot later on, to use as points.

I am not kidding my self, I am merely accepting what we have been told by the various club recruiters and media gurus, that this years draft is not a great one.  

Second, it is your contention that the players drafted by GWS this year, will get them in the 2017 GF.

Good afternoon Mr. leg.  I think my opinion and many others  is that the AFL are all song and little dance.

GWS is the love child and they will beat their chest about penalities but the reality is they will be modest.

It also suits their purpose to have GWS defy them just before the draft.

Am I a cynic about the AFL.

BTW, you have to love the argument of GWS. We are innocent, because the officials went rogue. In other words they acted against the club's guidelines.

Agreed. GWS held their own internal investigation and cleared Allan and Lambert and continued employing them.  But apparently now they were "rogue".  GWS should be punished more severely for taking the pizz

Very good point there F5, I had completely forgotten their 'internal investigation'!

As Redleg pointed out, their defence was a mockery before. Once you add this it's looking shaky to the extreme.

I believe AFL Rule 27 (D)  provides heavy sanctions for "taking the pizz".

I agree with you here Monoccular. And, for mine, the AFL is not interested in redressing any of the inequalities. Someone may correct me here, but my understanding is that whilst we will now all have 'academies' and associated regions, regular clubs (as opposed to Phat Phil's) will not be able to have dibs on a player but merely rookie him if he is not selected in the main draft. Not quite the same as pocketing away absolute stars prior to the draft itself. Gil is a pumped up poonce who's all pi55 and wind.

Also, probably more importantly, if they let them off on this defence of "individuals are guilty, not the club" no club will be guilty of anything again and some clubs may be looking for compensation for past penalties.

The AFL have totally missed any opportunity to even pretend that they are even-handed and committed to WADA and ASADA, and penalizing breaches of their agreed rules
