On face value of the current situation, I would offer them the choice of this years third rounder or next years second rounder and let them process that.

At least next year we'll be back in the first round with better leverage to trade for an established A grader or take it to the draft.

I feel that the value of players so far during this trade period is below what we're used to seeing from years gone by. The points system may have something to do with this and clubs may just want to get deals done before it gets too complicated.

Surely the Hibberd deal now can be done considering Jordan Lewis isn't leaving Hawks, I guessing the Lewis stuff caught us by surprise now can focus on Hibberd Trade

Hawthorn have said Lewis is a required player, Lewis has not said he wants to stay at Hawthorn.  Not over yet.

So we're going to offer Hibberd as a trade for Lewis?

Contracts are meaningless if a player wants to leave a club. Why would you want to pay someone if their heart is no longer in it?

The longer the Jaeger deal drags on the cheaper Hibberd becomes. If GC and the hawks can't broker a deal, Jaeger goes into the PSD with a 700k price tag on his head. If Essendon want him, they need to have 700k in cap space.

If the Jaeger negotiations break down Essendon will need to dump Hibberd to free up 700k for Jaeger. If they carry Hibberd they are less likely to be able to sign Jaeger.

The dees are playing this very well.

Just a side note, I expect Hibberd is around the 300-400k mark, so they might require another move also to free up space)

LOL to whoever said this would be the first deal done during trade week.

Plead guilty.

I think I said the deal was done and it would be done early.

Wasn't told we would change the deal and never thought we would.

Great if we get it done cheaper.

As tends to happen in trade week i suspect a curve ball has come alone, i still personally believe the deal you suggested is what will get done

O'Meara would go in the ND. Hawks are reported to be working on a deal with Brisbane for pick 3.

O'Meara 100% at Hawthorn.

first rule of trade club...

whatever ought to be the first and simplest trade will invariably go down to the wire and sometimes fail

I dont think this will quite but a lot to go under bridges I think before its crystal clear and signed.

Maybe, if Ess are hearing the scuttlebut about Rockcliff and Lewis they might be getting worried they will have to keep Hibberd, after all he said he is happy to stay.

Ess had better hurry up and accept our offer - or it might be gone or diluted by the time trade period is over:cool:.

Let them sweat, I say - they have no leaverage at all.

We can offer to take Parish and/or Daniher as well if it would assist them.

Except someone might trump us for Hibberd.

Interesting you mention this, the Swans are very keen on a ball user on half back, obviously Hibberd isn't the one they're keen on but i reckon they'll be sniffing around Salem.

Barrett says Hibberd will be traded for next years 2nd rounder.

Awesome if true - we stared down Essendon down!  Dodoro blinked first, for a change!

tbh I wouldn't care whether it was year or next year 2nd rnd but its good to not let them 'win'!!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
