So why isn't Cyril being cited when he bumped weideman head on and then lifted his leg and drove him into the turf?

That was head on.

once he grabbed the leg and lifted NRL style it should have been a free and a report - it is a dangerous tackle.

only if the head is down

(n) bumps or makes forceful contact to an opposition Player from front-on when that Player has their head down over the football. NOTE: – a Player can bump an opposition Player’s body from side-on but any contact forward of side-on will be deemed to be front-on; – a Player with their head down in anticipation of winning possession of the football or after contesting the football will be deemed to have their head down over the football for the purposes of this law. This situation perfectly sums up what Oliver was doing.

Another form of shepherding is bumping, which is when a player uses their hip and shoulder to bump another player, not using their arms. This technique can be carried out by anyone against any opponent as long as they are within five metres of the ball. Bumping can only occur if the player bumping has their feet on the ground, and no contact can be made with the head. A shirt front, which is a front on bump and usually quite aggressive, is a reportable offence and considered illegal. While a tackle is usually more effective in dispossessing a player, a bump is normally a harder physical hit, although will not result in a free kick, whereas tackles can.

no mention of a shirtfront needing to hit the head, nut

There were two actions where a free should have been paid and neither were paid.

Thanks DC - what rule is that ?

BTW  - i am incensed because the MRP have ruled it to the head - how is that not weeks ?

rules of shepherding (which is what bumps come under as they are not a tackle)

I gave the web site link i.e. http://www.aflrules.com.au/afl-game-rules/

p.s. think we can thank an ex-demon (and port) player for the shirt front becoming illegal

p.p.s. even the nrl has banned the shirtfront only they call it a charge

My squeezes son reckons that Hawthorn get a cushy ride from umpires and i have countered that he is looking at isolated incidents - praise be the Barrass that we won on Saturday as I can honestly say we were well and truly shafted for most of the afternoon.

It is not only what they do pay but also what the dont pay and the blatant inconsistency between the three umpires adjudicating. Maddening.

( focus your attention on Gawn - the amount of times he was obstructed from getting to a ruck contest or a marking contest and it wasnt picked up was obscene)

That is what he should have been reported for.  The bump was perfectly legal in the context of the rules.

Cyril is a dirty w****r and I think that he will get what he deserves in the long run. I can't wait to see Petracca and others seriously hurt him in future years. Karma is a b***h.

I think it may be becoming clear why different umpires make different decisions. They read different websites.  The AFL couldn't organise the proverbial in a brewery.

it was all the ducking by Cyril and the spear tackling that was disgraceful

Talking to the bushies boys they said when he played seniors for Mooroopna as a 16 year old he was bit of a loose cannon on the field. Always wanting to biff with blokes 10 years his age and giving the older blokes lip service for taking up spots in the ones lol..

He will NOT take a backward step. This is why Nathan Jones said he is the toughest young kid he has ever seen. Look at the way he lost his [censored] at Myke Cook when he bit him.

Half way through the year during a Murray Bushrangers game he cracked a 16 year old kids shoulder because of an absolute bone crunching tackle. Darren Ogier and the coaching staff sat him down and told him he needed to curb his aggression as they knew at AFL level he would come under much more scrutiny.

Didn't look high to me.

Don't really care about the AFL's convoluted take on these incidents but if the end outcome is that he gets to play next week then I'm okay with that. Was a good hit.

On that photo you would say Ollie has contributed to the head high, by bending his knees. If he stays upright, he gets hit int he chest.

Anyway, lets all move on, we have 3 more games to win..

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
