I heard at the time it was because he knocked Robbie out at training. Papers stamped from that point on. He confirmed that he did that. He also said that he'd made it clear he was going to punch Healey in the face for beating him in the goal kicking in his last game and only Croswell stepping in stopped him from doing it. He also said words to the effect that he didn't care a stuff that none of his team mates liked him because everyone played for themselves. Wouldn't have thought that would be quite in the Barassi play book. Probably why he said Barassi couldn't have coached a pig to be dirty.

 

Will never forget the first time I saw him play for the MFC. Looked just like a cartoon character out of Popeye. It was the chin. Hasn't changed much. Loved the footage of that famous Hawks game and his antics with Kelvin Moore who was playing on him. You could see he just didn't know what to do with this lunatic literally chesting him nose to nose. 

 

Clearly didn't believe most of what he was saying. Was just blurting crap out for publicitys sake. Couldn't even finish his own thoughts or sentences.

Half the clubs of those 12 signatories were technically insolvent. His beliefs are antiquated and Mike Sheahan realised it was pointless discussing the fact.

Absolutely loved the guy as a kid,I have not seen the interview so I wont watch it so I can remember the Jacko from my childhood.I also recall enjoying the TV show The Highwayman that he was in around  the late 80s.

After watching it in full I didn't think it was too bad. Sounds like a lot of old country footballers I know. Football tends to become a bitter and sensitive subject for a lot of older, dominant and egotistical personalities. They do get bitter, hold grudges, bag people out, talk down the next generation, etc. I don't find anything wrong with it, I think it is more common - than not. But they do have a lot to add. I look at country football clubs now, and a lot of the juniors are run and coached by kids just out of juniors - kids who haven't had life experience, and aren't really fit to teach kids. So I think Jacko makes some good points. If you take away the unnecessary verbal bashing of a few people, and actually listen to what Jacko has to say, he isn't too far off the mark.

I didn't remember him hitting Matthews after the Bruns assault but good on him for doing so.

A lot of old players talk about their treatment as cattle and the very little they made out of what is now a multi billion $ industry.

He has some open hostility for open Mile due to something personal but I would be interested to read the articles.

No love for the MFC , Robbie, Barrass ,John Devine.etc but respect for Crosswell.

I thought he was a complete [censored]. Rude, argumentative, crass, demonstrative and a bully. 

But Jacko was fantastic!

Somewhere in Brighton Sam Newman is spewing his guts out and telling himself he has to up his game.

Jacko illustrating why retro round is confined to one week of the year and not 25.

People think he made some good points because the common narrative is to bag out the afl instead of showing gratitude. 

We have a thriving 18 club competition model that lifts up the poorest and keeps them from folding that has eliminated thuggery and developed a social conscience. The complexity of Equalisation aside, its about time people showed some appreciation to the AFL instead of acting like they're the big enemy. To simplify, It reminds me of how everyone hated high school, and yet high school is responsible for socialising you and helping you develop into further studies and employment. The AFL is responsible for taking the game national and creating a sustainable and thriving business model. It's responsible for people like Peter Jackson and Paul Roos being delivered to us.

The VFL is still there for all the people like Jacko that want the "purist" form of footy, though you might have to start a brawl in the outer if you want to get the closest form.

Good riddance to people like him and as Gerard said on 360: I lasted about 8 minutes and decided I had something better to do than watch this.

I more or less agree with this in the sense that the game had to change, but let's not get too carried away with praising the AFL. How hard do u reckon it is to sell footy to aussies?

Am I mistaken in thinking that there was a goal kicking competition amongst the Melbourne players one year. Jacko and Gerrard Healy were close towards the end of the season and the players decided to kick the ball to Healy so Jacko wouldn't win.

I'm pretty sure that's right. Can someone confirm ?

According to Jacko, Jacko wanted to belt Healy after the game for winning the goalkicking. I'm not sure about the rest of what you're talking about though.

I was thinking the same. And it quickened his demise at the club.

And as for genuine characters in footy and at the MFC, I'd rather have a discussion with Max Gawn than Jacko anyday.
