Is Hamish Brayshaw related to Angus?

I had a quick look at some early phantom drafts. Only found 1 that ranked him at pick 50. He a good game a few weeks ago apparently. Played half back flank then pushed forward in the 2nd half and kicked 4 straight.

Looks pretty vanilla from this highlight video.

His play at 30 seconds looks good

Emma Quayle's AFL National Draft Combine Harvester is always a fantastic resource when referring to the leading draft prospects.

And Kevin "Shifter" Sheahan discusses who Melbourne might be interested in with pick # 26 (except that it's now pick # 27 thanks to the AFL's gift to the Lions and there's every chance we'll trade it anyway).

The Shifter story is a bit of a puff piece and I wonder why it was published at all. It's fairly common knowledge that we're going to give away a second round draft pick for Hibberd and we have limitations in regard to who and what we can trade. Until our draft position is cleared up this is all fairly meaningless stuff.

The results are out for the first two days of the AFL Draft Combine:-

Combine results, day one: Father-son prospect Jarman the early standout

Combine results, day two: First-round prospects star in beep test

Just off the top of my head I don't see as many outstanding results compared to previous years. Tests results from the 20-metre sprint and the beep test seem to be well below the best standards from the past.

The highlight for me is Ben Ainsworth from Gippsland Power who played one game for the Casey Scorpions and impressed with a couple of goals. He was in the top group in the sprint test and agility and I believe not far away from the top ten in the beep test. That sort of athletic ability is what you would be looking for in recruiting. Of course, from Melbourne's point of view, Ainsworth is completely out of reach because our chances of getting the top five pick needed to secure him.

Diacos didn't test - sore knee. Are The Eddie's playing funny buggers, hiding him? Maybe it is just my cynicism ?

Do not sell your intuition short Mono. Nothing is surer.

Another possible example of systemic manipulation by Collingwood which following on the Treloar operation could do with some transparency. The AfL does have an ethics section.

I would expect young Daicos to present " independent" medical evidence as to why he was unable to participate. Not a big thing but another example of something that "smells."

Why on earth is there an article on the club's website - our first pick being way down at now 28 - about a prospective number one draft pick?? (and it's tagged "Exclusive to melbournefc.com.au)

Some guesses, one of: by AFL direction (sadistic!); club choice (masochistic!); club intention (subliminal support for our targeting a half back)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
