The umps did suck but let's not forget we lost this. 

Had we had kicked straight the game was ours even with the ridiculous umpiring decisions.

Absolutely. One in particular, he scooped/slapped it 15 metres over the line. He did another couple as well, and all were within a kick or two from our goal.

Our players really should have kicked up a stink like they did.

Solid 4 quarter effort, confusing result, is Gus still feeling lingering effects? Hunt & Frost on the chase down tackles are great to watch, N Jones BOG after last weeks shocker, Petracca continues to improve (those calling for him to be rested  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) and Tyson has finally figured out how to not get done for holding the ball. 

Bring that intensity to the Suns next week and we'll cream 'em.

Because it was typical Melbourne. We need a poor game against St Kilda to spur us into action. I said last week it wouldn't surprise me if we got to within 3-4 goals this week as it would be bloody typical of our efforts after poor games. We have to be able to stop momentum in games and make the difference in the moment and we couldn't do it last week. It shouldn't take a week of being ripped by coaching staff to motive the playing group. You could tell by the 4 changes that the coaches were very dissapointed with the Saints game. Only a win this week would have made the difference (like it did against Geelong last year). 

Typical Melbourne is getting belted by flat track bullies.

When we have a team full of blokes who have olyed more then 50 games each rather then a team fuoo of blokes who have played less then 50 games I'll be as critical as the rest of you are

We lack match winners at the moment. Guys that step up when it counts. It was like I was watching the South African cricket team at the 99 World Cup at times today. They seemed to be trying to lose. Heartbreaking sums it up best.

Very much a heartbreaking loss.  No doubt about it.  I think the match winners are, potentially, there with more game time.  Petracca does some fantastic things.  Viney never gives in.  Gus is playing his best footy of the year, and we are a better side with him there.  We know Hogan can kick multiple goals and, like the others, as he gets older he will know how to do it more often.

It's a hard pill to swallow, but it's fact.

A day to be certain.

This is probably the most frustrating game we've had this year as compared to the other close games we've had (North, Hawthorn and Adelaide), we truly deserved to win this one. The other matches, it was a 50/50 match where both teams deserved to win at the end of the day, but there is no doubt today's match was ours to win, not theirs. We dominated in basically all stats except in our efficiency inside 50. They robbed us of what would have been an inspiring upset. 

In my opinion, it was yet again our defence and obviously efficiency inside 50 that cost us this game. Our midfielders and ability to get the ball inside 50 were outstanding, but we just couldn't exploit it and convert them into goals. Yet West Coast's ability to get a quick goal in the very few times they entered inside 50 was ridiculous - what sometimes took us a whole 15 minutes to get a [censored] goal took them 2 minutes. Umpiring didn't help either, but was not what ultimately cost us the game (though it did feel like it in the last quarter). We also shouldn't be too critical of players like Hogan, who are generally really important for us...had a quiet game, but so did Jones last week and many of our other stars in previous weeks. 

Once the frustration wears off, I think as Melbourne supporters we should be proud of what a terrific effort we showed today and should not be too critical. We aren't competing for finals and these are all games that will just make us stronger for next year and a more competitive side. I know a lot of you hate the 'experience' excuse, but it definitely needs to be taken into account. Even the commentators were commenting on how Stretch, a 19-year-old, is considered to be one of Melbourne's more experienced players having played 22 games now - that is astounding. I'm very excited for 2017 and the years to come once all our players have grown and developed even further and finally know, with their experience, how to win these close games.

Let's just hope he does. If he doesn't I suspect the vitriol directed towards him will make Scully look like a favourite son.

It's easy to be negative. I'm tired of negativity. I'm looking at the positives. This team, these players with more experience under their belts, with the domination in certain aspects of the game they showed today will win more games than they lose. Don't lose sight of this when you stick the boots into players who make a costly error. Yeah it's frustrating but look to the future. This team is going places and we'll get there sooner than you think. These umpires want to take a good hard look at themselves. Not good enough. The AFL will white wash them no doubt. 

Guys the future is bright !!!!!!!!!!!!!

"All those who continually complain" is the usual out of context 'Land hyperbole. I'm guessing you are refering to me, and I said it in one thread the other day and got shouted down. The point was that the score was not reflective of the momentum in the game.

If you don't believe we should've won despite having so much more of the ball i50, then you can rest happy with the close loss.

I'm filthy we didn't win, as I believe we should've.

Yeah, I don't doubt the match winners are there, but at the moment the match winners have played 10-50 games. We really needed someone like Vince to stand up in the last quarter. Instead he was a clown. I dunno what it is about him this year. He's taken the foot off the pedal since that Bluey and I'm hoping he puts together a much stronger 2017, otherwise others will go past him at a rate of knots.

A very frustrating loss, we had it in our hot little hands and [censored] it.

Tom McDonald is a gun and played well today.

I know this will annoy those who seem to think us supporters have some sort of superpower and should not accept anything less than a win but today was a very good four quarter effort. Both teams made mistakes but you can't question the effort of this young team today. 

Had to turn the tv off as soon as it was over. I am so over listening to the commentators basically saying, Melbounre played well but they did what we always knew they would do, LOSE.

Thought I would get thrown out of my hotel room account noise and language.

Bring on next week.

 

The ball use of Harmes today gives plenty of hope that he could become the polished ball user we are lacking in the back half.
