Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ahh..2006. The last time we were any good. Pickett was fun, but wasn't the game changer we had hoped he would be.

Imo James McDonald was a harder player, different kind of tough.

lol sniper, gutless... Turn it up.

The bloke used his body as a cannonball, threw it in to all sorts of situations.

The Crummell hit was the one bad one, Byron knows it and is sorry about it. If he was a sniper there'd be more than one hit that was universally condemned.

He was on 360 a few weeks ago and I had to chuckle when he said "I wouldn't want my sons playing against someone that hits like I used to hit." haha no [censored]! Who would.

There was nothing tough or hard about Pickett. He was a sniper at best, and gutless at worst.

We paid massively over the odds for him and he did nothing in return. He was the biggest waste of space ever to grace the MFC with his presence in my 32 years as a member. Viewed the club as his superannuation only. Rarely got out of 3rd gear on or off the field, and resembled a keg on legs by the end of his time. Probably fast tracked the departure of Neale Daniher.

That's [censored] poita. He was not gutless and did test the resolve of a few opponents.  He gave us one good year but fell away after that and retired.

Hey picket, I'm guessing Pickett is your cuz. Can you confirm that?

PS. I reckon he's from the sane side of the family.

I have relatives that can be traced back to direct descendants of one of the suspects of being "Jack The Ripper"!!

Is that sane enough for ya!??

He was a revelation for most of his first season with us because he protected his teammates and often made opposition players tread warily. However, in his second season, he was unfit and didn't seem to have the thirst for the contest any more which was disappointing because it impacted on the team performance as a whole.

I think Pickett's career was caught between an era where shirt fronts and crude tackles were OK and the beginning of cleaning up the game (read sanitising). Beyond his hard side, Pickett was a really good footballer when fit.

Paid massive overs for Picket, in fact, I seem to recall one of the Picks we gave away for him was eventually used to recruit the current Kangaroos Captain, Andrew Swallow.  A very short sighted trade.

Port Adelaide exchanges Byron Pickett and its Round Four selection (number 54, on traded) and its Round Four selection (number 62) to Melbourne for its Round Two selection (number 28), Round Three selection (number 44) and Round Four selection (number 60).

Demons in top up mode trying for a premiership, looking for those intangible pieces to get there. Basically gave up pick 28 as those later pick downgrades probably make no difference to the player that was drafted. Maybe the 10 pick downgrade from 44 to 54 could've resulted in a "miss". Seems a pretty sensible trade to me.

I'm not sure that we would have taken Swallow anyway because the knock on him at the time was that his kicking was poor. Ironically, I think it was the first time that he played against us, he kicked the goal that sealed a close game against us from 50m out.

Call it hindsight or test of time, but let's all understand that this Pickett deal despite its few cheap thrills, was just one of many very poor trades/selections that contributed to the post Daniher horror years.

At least I'm consistent, hated him as an opposition player and never saw the sense of recruiting an over the hill, superannuation top up.

byron had a few nice cameo moments i enjoyed, but from a top-up trade perspective it was a failure. he looked overweight and frequently unfit. his last season at port was pretty average and pick 28 was probably overs

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
