Not only is Nev clearly our best defender, but he's in the very top echelon of small defenders in the competition.  He would be a strong contender for AA honours if the side was selected right now!

Yep he plays taller opponents very well

Must admit I have a lot more confidence in our small/mid size defenders than our talls.  I can see Hunt, Wagner, Jetta and Salem, add in White as our key small/mid size defenders going forward and they will grow in confidence.  The flip side the McDonalds, Garland and Dunn bit of a concern here.   Oscar will be OK, his big brother needs to learn from Jetta and play with in his limitations.  Garland has brain fades, same as Dunn.  Frost needs to have a crack deep in defence.

Clearly #1 and all credit to him for taking up Roos' challenge thrown at him. Clearly a guy who really wants to play AFL, unlike many before him who may have liked to.

Ad drdrake pointed out our small nd medium defenders list is developing well but the taller ones still need work, and some more personnel.

Well done Nev.

This time last year it would have been T Mac but he has been inconsistent recently so Jetta gets the nod.

Id back t Mac to come back into form though, no one tries harder

Jetta>>>>>>> Daylight>>> who knows.. seniors backs need to pull their finger out and learn from this bloke.

Absolutely.

There would be 5 names permanently on that whiteboard before the team ispicked - Hogan, Viney, Jones, Vince, and Jetta

He is our best defender for the simple reason that he doesn't really have a weakness in his game. He has safe hands marking, his disposal is neat, he makes good decisions, he know when to stick to his man and knows when to peel off or go third up and he now has some nice attacking qualities to his game ( which was missing in the early days as a defender)

The likes of TMac, Dunn, Garland, Hunt, Wagner, Salem all have aspects of their game that are superior to Jetta. The difference is that all the named have weaknesses or inconsistencies to their games that Jetta doesn't have.

I would loved him to have just a tad more straight line leg speed  - that would have put into the absolute top bracket in the AFL IMO.

What a credit to himself that he has worked his way back from major injury, off the rookie list to being regarded by most as our most reliable and skilled defender.

This is what great clubs and champion players are made of. Well done Nev!!!

Well said Cards.  He is just the sort of player you want on your list - never drops his head and works hard to make himself better.  It shows on the football field and he is rarely beaten.  A bonus is also the fact this his disposal is quite good, too.  He rarely misses a target.

Yep, does all the little 1 percenters that often go unoticed. Defends and attacks as well or better than anyone. Easily our best on both sides but also capable of finishing off his good work by finding targets and/or kicking to advantage of forwards.

Consistantly plays at a high level and has both sides covered. We have some reasonable defenders doing ok on one side or the other but not both as well as Nev at the moment.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
