Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I suspect we will play O Mac and not Garland.

To me, Garland is either low on confidence or the game has gone past him.  Every time he gets near it it looks like he is trying to wrestle a bar of soap.

I am a Dunn fan, but I personally love the fact he isn't getting a game.  There are too many things the coaches have been frustrated about with him, and for too long we have had to accept that because there were no better alternatives.  For mine, the fact he hasn't remedied those areas and now will not get a game without doing so will lift standards across the board.

We have to trim the list from the 7 on the bench. Garland is named on the field, so won't be dropped.

The 7 on the bench are: Kent, Newton, OMac, Hunt, ANB, Grime, Harmes. Make your selection from that lot

Can someone tell me how many one on one contests Garland lost last week? I was at the game, but haven't watched a replay yet, so my memory might be playing tricks on me, but I don't remember him being beaten too often.

Give Kent another week off or maybe they think Harmes is due for a rest...

I've watched the game twice. Didn't see him win a contest too often...

Brisbane hardly have any tall forwards so we decide to bring in another tall defender?

Yeah I don't get it either.. I'd rather the extra run from Hunt or Harmes but then again could be a good game for McDonald to play against an undermanned inexperienced side and Mcstay did kick 3 against us in that loss at etihad in 2014 and his back in this week :P

Having a look at Brisbanes side this week, it's terrible, you know it's bad when a side has 9 changes. I thought this going into the essendon game but if we don't win this by 10 goals there's something wrong.. These blokes hardly play at the G and are going as bad as you can get and when your replacing almost half a side already missing their skipper, we'd wanna run all over them and win this game convincingly.. Hopefully the players don't have the same attitude as me and the essendon game.

From my memory, when he was in a contest he generally halved it. As I said though, I haven't watched the replay.

If a kick is not to the advantage of a forward and the defender is able to make a basic 'spoil', who is given the plaudits?

The defender? If you believe so, I think you're completely overrating a basic skill that all defenders are expected to execute under those circumstances. All defenders are expected to 'spoil' a ball in that situation at the very least.

I didn't go the game last week. But I did watch the replay and after reading comments about Garland on demonland, I was expecting the worst. Surprisingly however, I didn't think it was a horrible game from him. But it was very much a 'Garland' game. The same story which I've been preaching for a long time. He just floats. Hangs off his opponent. Literally. (Which is evidenced by free kicks against). And provides little to any offensive play. (As evidenced by his 35 metre vertical kicks into the air as well as his blaze away kicking when under any sort of pressure).

We will get better when we find upgrades to these kinds of players.

Too be honest I didn't see him get to or win any contests... He just looked deflated and defeated..

Some players don't play well in positions that don't sit them. This is a coaching failure as much as Salems.

I  tip of he was on the wing he would be doing better.

He played some time on the wing last week 'Gorgoroth'...it didn't help him.

He needs to read the play a lot better, to me he is good with ball in hand but slow to react when it's not.

Until we are consistently top 4, can every wildly optimistic statement posted be auto corrected to add......if we play our best footy eg:-

we will win this by lots if we play our best footy

if we play our best footy we've got this

we will win this by over 100 points if we play our best footy

they are a rabble, we'll hit them so many times they'll think they're surrounded, we'll smash them then murder them, box em up and send their sorry azzes back where they belong if we play our best footy

Redpath destroyed him early. Colin has little confidence at the best of times, when redpath got on top, garland was always going to be reactive the longer the game went on. Some of his bodywork and positioning was worse than schoolboy footy. I'm taking that roos and Co are using the "sustained" run in the team to give him a fair shot, but if you're in the team as a key defender and offer nothing defensively, or offensively for that matter, his stay will be very limited.

Lynden Dunn: Dunny had 28 possessions and made several effective tackles. He was really solid for us in defence and was really strong in a lot of one-on-one contests. He came forward in a lot of contests, which we encouraged him to do. He set up a lot of our offensive play, because he kicks the ball well and can get some distance. Dunny put the ball inside 50 five times during the game, which was a really good effort. He competed really well and it was a really solid game for him.

Yeah you're right, let's stick with Garland getting beaten in one on ones and his whopping 9 disposals...

Where did I say that we should stick with Garland? Typical stuie putting words into other's mouths.

Did you really expect the club VFL player review to write anything bad about Dunn?

This is from KC from Casey's report:

Casey Scorpions 1.4.10 10.8.69 15.12.102 19.19.133

Sandringham 7.3.45 9.3.57 13.6.84 16.6.102

I don't think Dunn is capable of playing the zone defensive structure we are trying to play. He doesn't have the leap or length to play in front of his man, which is a key requirement. Garland isn't the only defender who is struggling and at least he has the athleticism. Only Jetta and Tom McDonald on his good days and maybe Vince are defending well.

Lol. So we're going by KC's report rather than our VFL coach? Righto champ... Clutching for straws now.

Dunn is in the squad now btw.

You're becoming a farcical poster whose opinions are decided by wanting to be contrary to me no matter what.

I wouldn't mind Dunny playing as a forward.

Who is our second ruck, though?

if he does play forward it would probably have to be him, not gonna play watts or hogan in the ruck. I dont mind him forward either but they may choose to play a small forward line, who knows. I think dunn at HF with his long kick could be pretty good.

Maybe Tommy Mc goes forward and takes the 2nd ruck...he's the only one with some ruck experience.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
