Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Viney has mentioned the 'F' word in his presser this morning. You'd hope the group has learnt from round 2, and not get ahead of themselves. If not, we could get spanked this week.

We are still a mid-range team, lets not forget that.

I want them mentioning the F word personally, my expectation is this team will play finals, we're good enough. losing to Essendon and North hurts we SHOULD be 5-0

Always, always, always comes back to bite teams.

In house, expect to win every week. Just don't put any extra pressure on a team who haven't won 3 in a row for 6 years.

Yet he wasn't playing when we lost to Essendon, how much "better" were we that week?

As I may not receive an answer...

It's mildly amusing that a seasoned poster needs to be educated to the fact that footy is still won in the midfield.  We had 128 less disposals than Essendon and Gawn, Viney had their worst games.  Others in the engine room were also underwhelming.

But you think Frost not playing was a key factor.  Nice one, Chuckles.

I love Gus, but I am a little frustrated about where his game is at. I know he's taken some knocks and perhaps it's just a case of second year blues, but I was hoping this year he would be able to get more of the ball, because if he does, he becomes a very damaging player. Even 20-25 touches would be enough.

He's first out for mine. Apart from his goal the other night, he wasn't in the play enough (9 disposals) and despite his 5 tackles, he just didn't have an influence. Oliver has dashed past him already, IMO.

He is not playing a role that would allow him to get that much footy regularly.

Pedersen is required to be back up for Gawn.

Frost is showing a bit more every week but still makes frustrating errors - he is tall but isn't playing a tall role in my opinion. I would prefer Petracca be the one linking up forward of centre wing and being involved in the forward set up that prioritises space to talls that know what they are doing.

Essendon deserved to win that game hands down. They beats us in all aspects of the game.

The Kangaroos game is one that still angers me. We potentially could have been 4-1 with us being the only side to knock off North.

Just wondering, Salem I thought lacked a bit of physicality on the weekend, brushed off the ball a couple of times, couldn't stick tackles, any one else notice?

I agree, but there is no denying we didn't bring anything like an AFL attitude or play anywhere near what we have in any other game this year.

Another 30 seconds and we'd be 4-1 imo

You're free to point out where I said we lost because Frost didn't play, or we lost even though the midfield was good, however if you want to use actual evidence of how the team has performed, then we've played better when Frost (and Pedersen) have been part of the structure, it's an actual fact, and as someone who prefers stats rather than watching the game I thought you would be able to grasp that by yourself, evidently I have to hold your hand and lead you down the path.

So to summarize for you, to save you the effort of having to post twice before comprehending once more, you stated dropping Frost would make us a better team, however the evidence does not support you on that, and clearly neither does our coach.

Who cares.

Salem is our best kick, and the perfect attacking defender.

He is actually not bad in 1on1s, even in flight.

I love having him in the team, and he doesn't get enough attention for the good things he does.

My comment wasn't in reference to how good he is, just pointing to an area he may improve.

Disagree, the best attacking defenders still have to defend, Heath Shaw for example is a very good defender, Christian at this stage is not.

He is however a very good offensive player and a beautiful user of the ball and i suspect playing his position because we really don't have anyone else

I have heard that sort of 'optimistic' statement far too many times over far too many years.

Most importantly of all probably being inside their vs our minds.

We went into that game expecting that it would be a walkover, as it should have been.

Bad mindset is a recipe for disaster.  Reminds me of the time ?12 years ago when we were top of the ladder after ?15 rounds....hardly won a game after that.

I didnt sense optimism, I sensed great dread like I am sure we all feel when this team comes up against an 'easy kill'

Trenners had a glowing match report from the weekend across 4 quaters , no idea who would be dropped and his conditioning expectations but wowee he will be back soon could be a slight chance this week .

Dropped briefly into training session this morning. Very light workout, mostly goal kicking practice, in very blustery conditions.

One thing to report. Dunn was training with the injury group made up of himself, Trenners, Spencer and Dawes, mostly handball practice. Is there anything anyone knows about this. It is the first time I have heard of a question mark over him. Also wondered why Trenners was there given his game at Casey over the weekend.

If he were to be out, who would replace him? Garland is in very ordinary form, and Oscar Mac has only recently returned from injury, although was in the full training session today. We need two talls to cover McCartin and Reiwolt. Maybe we need to put either Frost or Pederson back there.

Thoughts?

Most likely just on light duties given the short week.

Yes, but don't forget with the over-sized (in my opinion) final 8, a mid-range team  is the definition of a team that just qualifies for the finals.

Getting in the finals, as glamorous as that is - is just a pass mark for the season with 8 teams making the finals.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger.
