Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Vince and Garlett have to come in.  A small forward and a mid have to make way to keep the balance.  Kent (doesn't rack up many possessions when averaged over games and a spell at casey could give him an opportunity to run around in the midfield and rectify that)for Garlett (better forward pressure and more goals).  Vince for Oliver(various reasons as expressed by others here, even if it is only a week or 2).

You have rocks in your head and don't watch the games of think Kent will be dropped.. Sorry to be so blunt.. Kent is a lock in the 22 as long as he is fit!

Im.just trying to predict outs. I cant find any clear candidates to drop...

Possible outs: Oliie (rest) Brayshaw (fitness) Hunt (stiff) Wagner (very stiff) M Jones (stiff) Frost/pederson  (stiff) Salem (form? I personally wouldnt drop him at this stage)

Ins: Vince & Garlett (givens if fit), Michie, & ANB (both have been solid in vfl both have to be close), Tracc & trengove (probs not yet). The been there befores - Grimes and Terlich (both also been solid)

Wowee i can't remeber the last time the dees had a problem like this. I can only see 1 change (Vince for oliver/hunt/wagner) Garlett will depend on fitness.

I love that there is real pressure to perfom now to keep your spot. Young or old u wont be gifted a game.

Agree. Hard to pick

So, that means sit a week totally on the sidelines, yeah?  Not having a go at you, but let's be clear - if head injury is an issue, we wouldn't want anyone to play at any level for the next week, AFL, VFL, or suburban 5ths at Packenham Upper. Right?

Up for a hit in the nets? How about some frisbee then? Nope. I guess hoops are out of the question. X-Box? Righto, I'll start strapping my thumbs.

Regarding Hunt,a demotion need not mean being a confidence sapper.  I reckon it'd be the easiest "you're dropped" speech Roos ever gave:

"Sit down Hunty.  Look, with Bernie back this week, we're going to have you back at Casey for the time being.  It's nothing you did wrong - we thought you acquitted yourself really well for your first game.  I know it's disappointing, but we hope you got some confidence out of it that you can take back to the VFL - keep working hard there and keep your form up, and you'll be in our minds again when opportunities come up as we were very happy with how you went."

He'll already be well aware that he was filling in for the club's best player and reigning B&F winner, so coming back out for Vince won't shock him.  If the conversation is done the right way, instead of being too bummed, he could walk out of the room ready to rip Williamstown a new one with his new "I can play AFL footy" confidence.

Liked this mainly for for the Roos roleplaying.

Can't spell can't score. Had you been correct it would have been 40 : 30

As it stands. Game - spelling Nazis, spelling Nazis lead 1 game to nil.

Thanks for playing.

Edit:- However in my house I only accept words that appear in Oxford or Macquarie dictionary's printed prior to 1982, so you may well be right. I will check tonight. - I have re-written that sentence five times and it is now ...... better.

One thing we should be aware of is Salem and Kent's hamstrings if it's a cold night. I wonder if they were on restricted duties today at training with that in mind.

As someone who had constant hamstring problems over a long time of playing football, the cold night barely rates as an issue, particularly in an AFL environment.

If you're going to do a string it will go...cold night, warm day, whatever, they are pretty flakey things.

Would be happy for them to play Deledio. Trained with the main group today for the first time in nearly 2 months. He will get exposed by lack of match fitness and will struggle to run out a game at AFL level

Quite apart from the fact that Kent's place on form is nowhere near in jeopardy, he needs to be in Sunday night's side for physical presence.  Richmond are backs to the wall and Hardwick will go the intimidation path on the younger Melbourne guys - he has form in this regard.  On that basis I think young Hunt might be one of the guys to miss (if in fact we're talking two changes).   The other one is probably a toss-up between rest Oliver and Matt Jones a bit sore.  If Oliver does play, it would be likely he doesn't the following week with the 6 day turnaround.  The Casey guys with a Sat night game have a 7 day turnaround so that lends itself to Petracca coming in against the Saints.

That would be hilarious since our kids are tougher then even their most experienced players.

The idea of the Richmond players trying to rough up Hogan, Frost, Oliver, Viney, Kent, Angus, Ben Ken, Harmes,  just LOL

I finally watched the replay in the early hours of this morning. This selection is one of the most interesting in years. At the top of my outs list would be M Jones, Pedersen, Frost, Bugg, Hunt and Wagner but there's strong arguments for the retention of all six. Pedersen and Frost were very impressive. Watch the last 5 minutes of the third quarter again. Frost and Pedersen have clearly defined roles and are playing them as well as they currently can. Frost obviously has more upside but still dropped two or three marks that would have rounded out an impressive game. Pedersen was rolled out to meet the media this week after one of his most complete games for the club. I really don't see either being dropped. Matt Jones has been terrific this year but his deficiencies are still obvious. He'd be very unlucky to miss out. Can you drop Hunt or Wagner? Both had really strong games. Do we back them in now and adjust the roles of Salem and Vince? Or pump their tyres up and tell them the club now knows they're up to it but send them back to Casey with the strong message that their time is nigh? Bugg for me is the clear weak link in the team. He's not overly quick, very one sided and turns it over by foot. But again, as Nasher said earlier, how can you drop someone who has had 29 disposals and 9 tackles. Other arguments could be made for Harmes or Brayshaw but Harmes looks to me as if he's just arrived and I don't want to see Brayshaw ever play for Casey again. If it was two weeks from now and we were coming off a loss, I'd have Garlett, Vince, Trengove, ANB and Petracca in for Bugg, Frost, Wagner, M Jones and Harmes. This week though? I still don't know. Garlett and Vince for M Jones and Frost . . . maybe.

The list waiting in line is starting to mount up:

Petracca

Trengove

Garlett

Vince

ANB

In: Garlett, Vince

Out: Oliver (rest), Brayshaw (head knock)

From what I understand Terlich is knocking on the door.

A few calls for Petracca and he probably deserves a go as Hunt , Harmes and Oliver have had one.

However most agree that Viince and Garlett are must ins, so its unlikely 3 changes are made. If they are and Vdb gets in, they will no way make four.

Great to have options. Last few years we were scratching our heads wondering howe (pun intended) some players kept getting picked.

Please please please play trac.

I honestly see him lifting the excitement from the likes of hogan, kent, harmes, brayshaw, oliver.

They will all be jumping out the skin to play with him.

Do it roosy.

One thing to note this week, in all the pressers from the club, unlike every other week, no one has said he needs more time in the VFL. They more said he is in the mix.

Good signs!

From Plappy's VFL report.

Christian Petracca: Christian continues to improve and continues to build his game time. He did some really special things on the weekend and he ended up having 29 possessions, 14 of which were contested. He [also] pushed forward and kicked a goal. His second effort and his ability to bring other players into the game and use people around him was a real highlight. He took three or four contested marks and it was probably a sign that he’s starting to get some confidence about his game. We’re really bullish about where he’s going and we’re really happy with him so he’s just going to continue to build his game and his opportunity [to play AFL] will come when it comes.

I think the last sentence is such a tease, it really does say he could come in this week and it really does say he will be playing for Casey this week!

Just on Petracca. you'd think if he doesn't get a gig this week, he'd have to play next week. The club would not be so cruel to us as to have him debut at Metricon (would they?).

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
