When does Petracca get unleashed?

Featured Replies

Wagner was ok but no-one expected more than that. Petracca might very well be fit enough. Sure it is a gamble but so is Jeffy's ankle, Frost Vs Pederson.

The potential upside of CP5 outweighs the doubts for me.I understand not exposing kids too early but he is fast and built like an outhouse. I also see they may have decided that Brayshaw was underdone, but that shouldnt make the coaches flinch if they do believe he is up to it.

I hope he is, he hits targets.

On Petracca and injury risk: if it is still a genuine concern should he be playing full games for Casey?

I still think he needs more fitness before he plays AFL. But, I couldnt agree more with this particular point! I hate hearing people say they are playing at casey so they dont risk get injured. I think if you had a chat to JKH, Trenners or King they might back that point too.

On carrying Oliver and Petracca in the same team: Clayton - greatest number of effective disposals for Melb vs North in 65% ground time. Top bracket in contested and clearances. And a couple goals to boot. Hardly feels like we're carrying him. Would be pretty happy with another pinch-hitter like that. One playing predominantly forward with other options to run the wings in Garlett, BenKen and Vanders.

Well, he hasn't yet and that was partly my point.

End of the day CP5 would be playing if not for his back yard slam dunk contest so i'm sure the club will be hoping he realises just how silly that was.

This is about a 7% increase on last week. If they keep increasing by this amount he'll be thereabouts with typical midfielders in another two weeks.

Brayshaw looks fit enough now but Petracca looks 2-3 away judging by the Casey game. A lot of jogging not a lot of sprinting. I'm guessing gut running defensively is a bit beyond his fitness just yet.

Shame about Trengove's concussion. Will set him back 2-3 weeks. His fitness looked ahead of CP5's. It's very exciting to see that it looks like he's made a full recovery from his foot. He will be a valuable in. The way the games going, players with elite endurance over speed are becoming very valuable. Plus our list doesn't have enough players with elite skills. And he will bring that. Can't wait to see all of them out there. Looks like in about 4 weeks time we could have CP5, Brayshaw, Trengove. Plus I hate to say it but on the strength of the first 3 rounds you'd have to have Dawes ahead of Pedersen and Frost for CHF. That'll make a big difference structurally to at least Watts who seems to be playing as the 2nd forward instead of 3rd. Should also help JH.

Well, this will be interesting to see. When Dawes does come back (let's be honest, Roos loves him), how will that impact upon the forward structure and in particular, Watts' position? Watts, as almost the second tall forward, has lifted his game with that responsibility, or perhaps it's just coincidental maturity, but either way I hope Dawes, Hogan and Watts can all play in the same forwardline.

I'm also hoping that Dawes' return (although I don't particularly rate him) will release Frost to the backline.

Given he is yet to play a full match at VFL level, I'd say they're managing his loads and don't think he is ready.

I responded to a same-like Nutbean' response that I was referring to future games - if we're confident he's ready to play a full game with Casey then the AFL shouldn't be any different (in the context of potential injury only). I should have said just games instead of full games. Actually, I should have said nothing - as all broader points against are entirely valid except that they're the about as pointless as reasoning with a kid on Xmas eve.

After spending an unreasonable amount of time last season calling for Dawes's resignation, I'm oddly looking forward to his return. He looks so good on paper with a stocked forward line. But not in it. Somewhere out bustling for chest marks forward of the wing.

Petracca is a beast  and therefore should be released. We need to max out our beasts v Collingwood.

If he plays another good game for Casey he will debut against the Tigers imo, sunday night Anzac eve would really boost up the crowd, although I wouldn't want to put pressure on him I reakon he is the type of player to want to debut in those circumstances

Thanks PD.

I thought it was a nice suburb when I was growing up, cultural wasteland is a bit harsh, there was a Chinese Restaurant!

For cultural diversity I used to ride my mini bike from the paddocks where the Waltzing Matilda pub is now to the Italian market gardeners down the road.

Sorry Man dee Springvale south doubtless had a tad more culture than where I was from. ( East Bentleigh ) Though we  liked it at the time.

Did North have a problem playing Petrie, Waite and Brown?

Mind you, one of my sources said even later (10-12) but I don't believe that.

Jones: Petracca won't play this week - we want to make sure he's prepared and has his fitness and body right.

Good to hear, we can be patient, he'll come in and he'll be good. Just give him time to build. And if he continues to dominate at VFL level he will come into AFL exploding with confidence

Dawes is still listed at 4 weeks must be stuck there
