Brayshaw is better than Matt Jones already and obviously is part of the future while the other is not

Your judgment is off about 80%

Nowhere did I say Matt Jones is better than Brayshaw.

I said Harmes should come out for Brayshaw and Matt Jones had a very good game.

I'll ask again, please actually read people's posts before responding.

This is what I'd rather see, as I don't rate Frost as a forward as he seems to be completely lost up there.

He's a terrible kick, but his pressure and speed is really important to our forward line and how it's designed to work this year.

Our forward line functioned so much better with him there and Pedo out of the way in the last quarter on Saturday.

Not sure if you were at the game, but Matt Jones had some vital possessions and played a really good game. There'd be a fair few others I drop for Brayshaw before him. I thought we were past the stage of gifting games on talent and just played whoever performed? Personally I had Harmes coming out for Brayshaw.

That's all I was asking for, an actual analysis that made intelligent points as opposed to just a smartipants GIF that tells me nothing. I will confess I was not at the game, I was watching nervously on my phone. But prior to round 1 I would've had Brayshaw in over M Jones and what I saw of the game he didn't do a lot, I didn't see him do a lot wrong for that matter. Hence my comment.

I agree Harmes was pretty ineffectual and he should be in consideration for being dropped, but for me it's not like for like (if Brayshaw comes in for him).

Harmes won't get dropped.

Are you on the selection committee or his dad?

Harmes has been terrific pre-season and against St Kilda but unfortunately didn't have a cracker on Saturday and his name will be debated by the selectors as will Frost, Pedo and Oscar, especially if the latter's ankle is more ligament than sprain.

One positive for him is that Roosy has shown in the past that he doesn't like changing winning sides, so there's still a chance that we could see No CHANGE. He also may feel that he deserves another chance.

But Roosy is also a big fan of Angus and I'm sure he'll be keen to get him in - but will weigh up whether waiting another week will matter. Usually a VFL match against Box Hill is a tough affair although I noticed Sandy smashed the Hawks by close to 100 points, so they are sorely depleted at the moment, meaning Roosy and his colleagues will also weigh up just how much benefit Angus will get from playing VFL as opposed to at least getting back into the AFL routine.

If Oscar's out, then I'd expect it to be a toss up between Lumumba and Dunny for the other spot. And given Dunn is out of favour (up to DL's to get the inside story on why), then I suspect it will be Lumumba with Col expected to play on McKernan (assuming he's not dropped) and T-Mac getting Daniher. Pedo may have to do another cameo down back, although I still don't fully understand why Frost doesn't ever get that role, although clearly they like his ability to chase down defenders and apply pressure.

There is also a chance that they could just bring in Angus for Oscar (if injured) and send Pedo back on to McKernan from the outset. All will be revealed on Thursday.

Neither - but, he's a Roos' project.

Hard, aggressive and will never shirk the issue.

Brayshaw may come in, but not at Harmes' expense.

Hopefully no changes - Omac is a good height for Daniher .

the guys in question will be better for a run , frost , harmes . Pederson was ok also when it mattered .

Dunn in for Omac or Brayshaw in for Omac with frost or Pedo playing back .

I think everyone would have Brayshaw over Jones, but it's not an either/or situation. Jones had a ripper, will be kept in the side, Harmes had great energy, and I like him A LOT, but just think he struggled a bit with the pace of the game and his awareness and decision making suffered because of it.

TMac is only 2cm shorter, and our best defender, I'd be putting him on Daniher. OMac would get eaten alive.

You're right, Pedo was important, getting him out of the forward line was crucial to us winning.

**SIRENS**

Maybe last year or the year before..

I think Dunn comes in for McDonald.. And the way Roo's works that will be the only change..

They'll give Brayshaw a run at Casey and won't risk him against Essenson who are a basket case!

Going on past experiences, Roos doesn't like changing much up after a win if he can help it, but if fit we should be playing best 22 whenever possible. Brayshaw is best 22 and if he puts in a good week on the training track I reckon it'll be hard to not bring him in regardless of the opposition. The Bombers are to be underestimated at every teams peril, they have brought in some very decent players to cover (albeit at the twilight of their career) and there will be a day or two where everything clicks for them.

They will also be riding emotions of the fans as it's the first game in Melbourne (not at their home but ours ). I hope that last years debacle against them is seared into each players brains because our boys should be looking for redemption for last year, and dare I say it revenge for many previous years.

It will always be an unlucky player who gets dropped after a win, but if the best is available you play the best.

I think Dunn will come in for OMac, and someone very unlucky will make way for Brayshaw. (I suggested M Jones earlier but apparently not! :P

It's pretty hard when the VFL doesn't start for a couple of weeks after the AFL

Hard to get game time for the blokes who are left out of the main games....VFL coaches have to try and get their blokes ready for their season.

I think it is time to have the reserves back and starting at the same time as the AFL.

I'm not going to debate Pedersen as a forward as I think we're both already aware of the other's opinion. I just think Frost looked lost in the forward line and didn't seem to offer much from what I could see (I watched it on tv as I live overseas). To me he seems like a more natural defender. Even when playing in the forward line, his greatest contribution for the match came from a spoil when he was caught behind his direct opponent.

I'm not sure what the selection committee will do, and I'm aware that Frost has been training with the forwards all preseason, but if I were in charge I'd move him back as Oscar's replacement and bring Brayshaw into the side.

There's actually a whole thread about his role now which I've posted more in-depth stuff in. But the short version is, I look at the forward line as a package rather than player by player, and watching at the ground on Saturday you could see how well the combo could work. Before the season I was 100% Frost as a backman, but watching so far this year I've changed my opinion after seeing how well they can work as a unit.

Care to elaborate on this most hilarious of GIFs? Exactly which part do you disagree with the fact that Brayshaw is close to a walk up start or that Matt Jones could be dropped and didn't do too much wrong?

  • Dunn for Oscar McDonald.

  • I think we are too tall up forward and have gone for Frost over Pedersen in a toss-up based on Frost’s speed and pressure over Pedersen’s marking ability.

  • Lumumba in for an unlucky Harmes because I want to get our best side playing together.

  • I think still we lack an outside runner with class and would like to see Salem pushed up to the wing.

  • With the rule changes, I think we need to have at least one of Vince or Jones at half back. I think the tight interpretation of deliberate out of bounds means that dual sided kicking players will be at a premium, particularly out of the backline.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
