Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Simon Goodwin - coach in waiting...

Just watched Goodwin's post game interview - and while the players and their development gets the plaudits, I reckon we're right on track with the succession and development of our next coach.

No idea what he did or said at half time but a far improved team seemed to turn up after the long break.

He speaks well to the media. I like his comment "Kennedy & Bugg willed themselves back into the game"

2 New players who do not like losing ...

If you are being beaten ... turn it around ...

That needs to be a standard for the season.

I'm interested to know how all those that are outraged by the Essendon saga are reconciling that Goodwin "was first in line for the good stuff". It's an uncomfortable truth.

This is a serious question.  As many know I'm not particularly fazed by the issue but there are some who are taking a particularly "high moral ground" approach.  I reckon they must he horribly conflicted.  And was Macca there to?

Do we really need to open this can of worms?

Actually I'm the opposite, I really don't care at all, but don't feel the need to give the more verbose of our forum regulars a soapbox to rag on our coach in waiting after a solid win yesterday.

You're clearly in the let's focus on the negatives camp.

The AFL investigated the Essendon saga and obviously found Goodwin had no case to answer.  As an assistant coach he wasn't in charge of "governance".

If you weren't "fazed" I doubt you'd be bringing it up.

I'm genuinely unfazed.

I'm not fazed.  I'm just interested in the genuinely difficult position the "Essendon haters" find themselves in.

And WYL I'm not particularly concerned about PED in AFL footy.  I reckon after the Essendon saga it's very unlikely to happen again if it happened at all.  I'm more pizzed of the the WCE GF victory than Essendon's situation.

I'm usually accused of being in the positive camp so this is a nice change!

In my view Goodwin is our coach, Roos, Jackson and the Board were aware of all the issues when they appointed him and from all reports he has a terrific relationship with the players and an excellent understanding of the game.  He's had time under Roos.  What's not to like.  I don't give a stuff that he was at Essendon but there are those that want all things Essendon purged from the AFL (probably along with the AFL as well).

This is a discussion forum and we are discussing Goodwin.  I'm interested in their views and how they reconcile there position.  I don't think that's negative actually, I think it's interesting.  Or at least it's interesting to me.  But TBH I doubt I'll hear a lot from them.

If nothing else Goodwin has almost certainly had quite a wake-up call. Any coach or perspective coach knows that he himself needs to be on the up-and-up. If one was to put oneself in his position then one would know that there would be many viewing him with a discernible eye ... and not just from within our club.

The stuff that went on at Essendon may end up making him an even better coach - in a way he has put himself on notice and therefore, there shouldn't be any comfort zones. Too many rookie coaches get carried away with themselves - their sometimes false sense of worth ends up getting in the way of coaching to the best of their ability. Goodwin has come in under a bit of a cloud but that can be a real positive.

There's no room for big heads and I very much doubt that he will get ahead of himself. As always, a coach can only really be judged on how the team performs on the weekend. I wish him well.

And not all who were pointing the finger of guilt at the Bombers treated the Essendon stuff in the same way - a number here treated it (and still do) in too much of a narrow way ... it became like Melb vs Ess for too many ... The broader picture is horrific and that's where the focus should lie (with regards to PED use)

The AFL were always going to go into repair mode with the Bombers and it can't be any fun missing a whole year of footy and to be forever labeled as a drug cheat (and that's how many will view the 34)

I am a bit fazed

Would like to hear some truth from him.

A genuine admission that he was/wasnt part of a drug program

That he regrets the processes that were obviously lacking in the Essendon program. That he has learnt from that experience and will ensure that any practices he is involved with meet the highest standards of transparency and rigour.

That he does not condone any illegal or untested drug programs in any sport.

That as MFC coach he is following and maintaining the high standards that were outlined during his recruitment..

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
