Hird dropped Andy in it only after he learnt that he was to be the fall guy.  If I recall correctly the 'deal' Andy and David Evans had concocted was along the lines of the players get let down gently and get a wrap over the knuckles but Hird goes down! 

As soon as Hird learnt that he went for the jugular and started throwing everyone under the bus.  Having dispensed with David Evans, a life long family friend, going for Andy seemed small fry.

That makes sense.  I then wonder why Demetriou hasn't been charged with something since it seems pretty clear. I dimly recall his defence was that he didn't tell EFC it was specifically them that was in trouble. But since he doesn't seemed to have issued a general warning to other clubs, that effectively means he told EFC that it was them being investigated.

My recollection is that after the ACC briefed the AFL (in feb 2013) Andy rang clubs (not sure if it was all 18).  The media pack had already gathered (euphemistically) and were baying at EFC's door ready to publish about peptides.  So, I believe it was common knowledge in media circles.  After Hird accused Andy D, the ACC (or someone) investigated and found that Andy D had not broken the law ie had not leaked to EFC via David Evans.  But as I said everyone else seemed to know so hard to pin it on Andy D.

"Four Corners" next week could be interesting. According to the ABC promotion, it is "a rare insiders view of the greatest scandal in Australian sport". Wonder if our Tracy is the source again? If she is, it will be the lowest ebb in the very distinguished history of Four Corners. Let's hope they are not so stupid.

Sue, the reason AD was not charged was that he had not been told which club was under suspicion by the ACC?  I have no doubt that AD knew which club and he most likely did warn the EFC.

I would think the warning would have been along the lines of:- All [censored] is about to blow up, an AFL club is about to be busted very soon. I hope it is not you guys because they have plenty of damning evidence. Any how have I nice day David we'll talk soon.

Without being flippant, is there any other great scandal in Australian sport that it could be, such as cobalt and racing (Peter Moody won the major part of his appeal today, by the way), the dollars spent trying to secure the 2022 World Cup or (tenuous link alert) Tabcorp allegedly making corrupt payments to get a sports betting licence in Cambodia?

Andy D claims he wasn't told it was the EFC. Anyone around the AFL knew because they had Dank. Gerard Healy had told the AFL Dank was giving them peptides so AD clearly went to Evans and said ' you had better fess up'. Hird was to be the fall guy and Tarnia wasn't happy.

Not stupid. Calculated. This Hunter case is a practice run for EFC. They're showing the 34 what they'll be up against if/when they decide to come after them.

Clearly, they've put Hunter on the Chinese water torture to see if he can last the distance. The idea is that he will drop the case or settle (with a "no blabbing" clause). However it relies on operating in the shadows. Publicity is not good as it reflects so poorly on them.

The latest release of documents might be related to the 4 Corners thing.

Wonder if the AFL gets roped in as well, not as if they are not already

Can't see how they could be left out. Likewise ASADA, WADA and CAS. Should be interesting. Blow the whole scandal apart I suspect. It is such fertile ground as there are still so many unanswered questions which the guilty parties never want answered.

Lindsay Tanner's machiavellian behaviour as a politician will not be an asset to the EFC,  Coming from the union movement he was essentially a numbers man, part of the labour/ALP machine, who was an effective political operator but lacked creativity and vision. I always thought that he looked like and acted like an undertaker. Perhaps an appropriate role given the diseased state that this once great football club is in. Ernest Lindsay will not provide the inspiration, vision or leadership that the EFC needs at this time. He reminds me of the old trade union leader that has not understood the changes that have occurred in society and the workforce and is pedalling the same old message not realising that the message is out of date and falling on deaf ears. I would think that many must be horrified by his leadership. His statements suggest that he is yesterday's man and not the person to lead his club to the new beginning that the club needs to recover from its terminal condition.

Well might Tanner be a yesterday man for he represents a club that today still has not really apologised for its transgressions and so can move onto tomorrow. It's still stuck in yesterday's mess.

Maybe. But if it's primarily about Hal Hunter, the story could just be focused on his personal battle with the respective roles of ASADA, WADA and CAS peripheral to the story. And if they try to interview Dank, keep your eye out for him being on his phone. It seems to be his "go to" strategy whenever he leaves a courtroom, I assume to avoid having to make any comments. I seriously doubt there is anyone on the other end.
