Peter Jackson recommits to Demons

Great to see that Ricky Jackson has re-committed for 2 years.

He's certainly going to leave a 'Mark' on the place...

I hope they put up his highlights package soon... :)

Fantastic news, and not even a sniff of it in the press.

I don't understand... Is this how things are meant to be done?

Well done MFC.

Definitely has class and polish.

The good thing is that it tells us that Jackson wants to see it through. He has not taken the opportunity to jump ship. It tells us a lot about the man and the direction of the club.

Reassuring to the club and supporters.

Right on

Finals 2016 said the man himself...

Extended the extra year for a flag I reckon.

Wise decision.

what a legend PJ is

Wasnt there talk when he first came to the club he would only be there for a short time, 18 months or so? He must really be loving it and wants to see the fruits of his labour as they blossom

The thought that pops into my head when seeing this is, who would i welcome back to the club first..............this muppet or T$? Talk about Sophie's Choice.

Well done MFC.

It was on this day (like really) back in 2002 that 'Michael Jackson' famously dangled his infant son from a third story balcony.

How the media overlooked that obvious connection is quite remarkable.

Well done MFC.

Jesus Christ, no Schwab wasn't the best CEO and he had some wacky ideas, but he loves the club and his heart is in the right place.

Absurd and completely disrespectful to compare him to Scully.

6 months I think, the review?

It's a matter of time until a Melbourne fan somewhere decides to get a tattoo of this man's face.

It might be me.

Well, maybe just his initials with a love heart around them. I don't want people to think I'm crazy.

Thanks Peter, for what you have done already, and for the confidence that you show in the future by recommitting.

A great day for the club, and once again handled in a very professional leak-proof manner.

Bring on 2016!

Agreed!

I was Schwabs biggest critic for a long time...and knew we couldn't move forward with him at the helm.

But he deserves great kudos for the respect and love he has shown the club by staying silent and keeping his distance.

It takes a big man to do this. He does not deserve any whacks on this forum anymore.

Am delighted PJ has signed up. He believes!!

It is important to sponsors to see PJ stay, especially as Roos will go.

The risk was sponsors would see us as a rookie club again if both of them went next year.

PJ staying gives the continuity sponsors want to see.

PJ is crucial to re-signing AHG etc next year.

In short, he is crucial to our future!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
