Wouldnt be against him at all if Curnow or Weideman aren't available. He is a great prospect as he can play as a 2nd ruckman to give Gawn a rest up forward.

Has some potential however 200 cm players are a bit of a risk. Could take 5 years before knowing if he can play at the top level

With Max King developing and also likely to play the 200cm forward/ruck role I don't see us taking this guy.

His highlights do look good though.

It wouldn't seem to be in sync with the so called Roos philosophy of drafting talls.

I am not overly enthused by this pick, but it would suit our needs perfectly.

And a player suited to playing second fiddle would be better than one wanting to be the piggy in the middle himself, butting heads with Hogan.

We need a forward line that will work together.

Having said that, I'm not certain either of Curnow or Weideman are that type, but I can see Mackay being a perfect fit.

Do you choose based on best available or best fit?

I also think max king's future is limited in the AFL.

I do believe the football department see a weakness with our tall forward stocks. If Dawes doesn't improve we are essentially left with Peders and Hogan.

He has a lot of natural ability and has the potential to become a CHF/2nd ruck option. However if Curnow or Weideman were available i'd expect us to take them over McKay as Harry will need more development time before he's ready to play.

I've predicted McKay would go to Carlton with the pick they got off the Bulldogs.

I don't believe either Curnow or Weideman will be available. Either Essendon or Gold Coast will nab him

Thought it was interesting with us taking McKay. I’m fine with it, especially considering he played this year as a 17 year old and isn’t 18 until late Dec. In comparison, Brayshaw is a Jan 9 birthday so played the extra year in the TAC and went from a 30 something pick to a pick 3. Let’s face it, if he was 7 days younger, McKay would be talked up as a potential number 1 pick next year as he is a key forward.

In saying that I’d prefer Curnow or Weiderman. I just can’t see the Dons taking them both unless they are really convinced that Curnow becomes an inside mid.

I don't get your point. Of course good players come of the rookie list.

My point was that the chances that for any given player on a rookie list, the chance of them making it are quite slim. For every Dean Cox, there will be 10 or 20 who didn't cut it.

I know very little of Max King, only seen him a couple of times and was reasonably impressed. All I was saying is I doubt the club would have all their eggs in his basket and not be looking at drafting another ruck/forward at some stage.

Probably not ready to go next year, but a season or two in the gym and he will start becoming a genuine presence.

Looks like reasonable skills and covers the ground well. I'd be happy if we take him.

His brother (Ben) is more of a pack crashing player. Harry plays more of a Buddy (lite) style game.

I think Harry just understands the game better, so the highlights of his brother are just of him crashing into opponents.

Fair enough, could well be right. Ben seems like he's very much the late developer and probably behind in game knowledge.

I saw more of Harry when he was representing Vic Country, and most of his work was done further up the ground. Likely due to Schache being the key target inside 50.
