Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes.

Fine if he forces his way in - but this coaching / selection / managing group is not going to "gift" him or anyone else games.

So - if he is ready, fire!!!!!

The coaches have to be really strong with regards to the gifting of games. Grimes copped it last year, Watts was introduced to the concept, as long as it's consistent.

We don't want our first year players jumping straight into the middle from round one. Finally we are good enough to give our first year mids time to develop in the VFL.

Sheeit I do! I want him to force his way into this team round 1 and sweep all before him!

We haven't had a young high draft pick in years who comes straight into the team and tears the opposition a new one!

Very welcome to the Club Clayton Oliver!!

Given his very good form Friday I think if he's ready then so be it play him in the NAB cup games and if he continues showing the form he did Friday then what a tremendous shot in the arm for all Demon supporters, his family and himself! IF PICKED ROUND 1

" COMETH THE HOUR COMETH THE MAN "

Luv this bloke already ^_^

I am tipping that "Mini" Lingy will play Round one

he will demand a spot and play pretty well.

During the year he will be managed and rested

but Round one he will be out of control!!

look at the size of those shoulders and arms already!!

Btw, did he ever answer your post re his assertion that Hogan is a mercenary ?

I don't see BBs posts. Mainly because of reasons like what you are referring to - getting paid a commensurate wage and playing in a winning team is accusing someone of being a mercenary?

Good lord.

Didn't we have the quintessential young, high draft pick who tore the opposition (multiple) new one(s) last year?

I always thought GWS should've bidded on Jack Viney. We landed him at a bargain pick in the 20's, he was always going to be a top 3 player of that draft.

Part of that 'mythical' deal we had with the giants perhaps

It wasn't mythical; it's simply logical.

If GWS were to bid on Viney & we were forced to take him, we wouldn't have had the draft free to on-trade to them later in the pre-arranged deal to get Hogan.

Why would they proactively attempt to scupper the trade they wanted?

Because Viney would've been worth bidding on.

We still would've did the Hogan trade IMO.

It is only speculation to suggest there was some sort of deal with GWS not to bid on Viney.

And speculation is all it will ever be, as it's a little too draft tampering-ish for anyone to ever officially say it happened. It resonates well with me though and I think it did.

interesting that they have Whitfield (51 games), but have traded out picks 2 and 3 from that draft, not getting much in return for them either..  O'Rourke and PLowman only played 29 games between them in 3 seasons at GWS. Then we took Toumpas at 4, what an absolutely stinking top 4 of that draft

I wish they had bid on him, we would have got him instead of Toumpas at 4 and therefore used our mid-20s pick on some other kid.. in other words, the steal we got with Viney was immediately nullified by picking Toumpas. Sigh.

Sorry...you missed my humour.

I don't think anything was mythical. Many did. There was obviously (IMHO ) a gentleman's agreement here

We deal well with GWS

Gws are no threat to the old boys club.  Sounds silly but I honestly believe some in positions of influence in footy just don't want to see us lift off. Bad news for them :)

The Giants recruiting imo has been every bit as bad as MFC or Carlton, SOS is talked about as some recruiting genius but if you look over the players he has picked, a lot haven't come on at all or have been traded and the % of successful choices for top 20 selections is so low it's scary.

Especially when you consider a lot of those picks like Boyd and Whitfield were seen as obvious choices, so basically all others have failed

GWS had 11 picks in the first round of the 2011 draft. It was a very substandard draft (if you go look at it, not many have fired a shot, very weak draft). But, to rub salt into the wounds, GWS on-traded two of their better selections (Adams and Tyson). Unfortunately for GWS they followed up the next year by taking O'rourke and Plowman ahead of Stringer, Wines, McRae. Both drafts weren't strong at all, but to on-trade two of your better picks, and to overlook some quality kids the next year. It isn't good drafting.

GWS made the mistake of recruiting players from the same junior club, or the same state, as a way of attempting to alleviate the "go home" factor. They should have backed themselves, and taken best available.

Having said that, imagine their midfield with Adams and Treloar back in the squad. we would be touching ourselves like crazy if our midfield had as much talent. They really should have a cracker side this season.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
