Trade Radio Discussion

The deal I most hope gets done today is McCarthy to Freo... it will make them less desperate to chase after Hogan.

It would be good if we could bundle up picks 46 & 50 for a lower pick

Sydeny's Pick 33 would be nice.

Apparently Carlton willing to give pick 12 for Tomlinson, hence why they want it for Yarran so bad.

Don't think 50 is enough but wow pick 12 is overs x1000

hard to give what you dont have.

I think there's a requirement for all clubs to be on site for the 1st and last days of trade period. Don't read too much into JM entering the building.

Theyve already left the building...lol

12.05pm: DEMONS DONE

Melbourne's crew of Josh Mahoney and Todd Viney have just left, with the departing comment: "Nothing to report - we're done."

I wouldn't pay #12 for Yarran.

That makes at least two of us

I was so happy hearing that :) #excited

Also said we'll be a destination club in the next 12- 18 months and is massive about our future.

music to my ears

Plough massive about our future.

The other day he said it was crap

They'll just get him next year instead.

Terry Wallace being positive about our list isn't exactly a great thing...

The other day he said it was crap

No he didn't.

The other day he said it was crap

24 hours is a long time in football.

Just ask the saints

In the Saints case, 2 hours is a long time.

The other day he said it was crap

No he didn't. He was positive about our future. He just said that 2016 would be a hold ground year.

The other day he said it was crap

That was me talking about our trade period.

I ate a slice of pie yesterday, will need to eat the rest of the pie if Matheson ends up in red and blue

Plough massive about our future.

His purple headed dumbo sidekick wouldn't have liked hearing that

Seriously Mathieson? He reminds me of a poorer, although slightly quicker version of Brock McLean.

Maybe if he is there at pick 46. He is not a top 10 pick, nor what we need.

But hey, like that you have a differing view than most of us.

No he didn't.

One thing I've learnt over the years is that someone can say positive things about your club for 5 minutes, but if they say anything negative for 30 seconds it's all nongs seem to hear or remember.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?

After kicking the first goal of the match the Demons were always playing catch up against the Saints in Alice Spring and could never make the most of their inside 50 entries to wrestle back the lead.
