And your açcurate evaluation method is?

Don't have one; it's not really possible.

You could have some sort of points system like the one you're using and a coefficient based on the perceived strength of the particular draft in question, but it would still be a flat number, not allowing for things like a sublimely talented top 10, but little depth beyond that.

It will always be imperfect, so trying to apply any points system is inaccurate and a very rough guide at best.

Trying to say pick 43 & pick 21 is equivalent to pick 11 will never work, unless a team is willing to accept that deal because of the players that will be available to them, or what they can do with those assets to get another deal done.

Their value is determined by the market, not by a points system.

It's great as a rough guide, 55, but equating a plethora of mediocre picks to one good pick and applying a players worth by adding all these numbers up is not giving a true reflection of worth.

The lack of another model - other than case by case 'eye test' doesn't prove this more righteous.

so in bogan you don't like the new formula?

it's just a highly contentious fantasy points system

all it does is waste countless hours of time and internet bandwidth with people arguing its fallacies and merits

it was generated for one purpose only and that was to add a better degree of fairness to father son and academy draft accountability

whether it achieves that aim is for future judgement

trying to use it for any other purpose is fraught with problems

use it for other purposes at your own peril but don't expect others to similarly waste their time

As DC said - formula is fine but don't dress it up into something it isn't.

I used it to make a legitimate objective comparison of two trade scenarios involving Carlisle.

Yeah, nah.

You're using the term "legitimate" very loosely there.

the formula provides a (dubious) method for evaluating the relative merits of new DRAFTEES (i.e. u18 KIDS) only based on pick number

you can't then just add in a mix of semi-mature and mature players with draftees and claim any form of "legitimacy"

Also, that points system tells me that I should trade picks 16, 17, and 20 for pick 1 - and that it be fair.

I mean - lol...

Yes all sorts of unlikely scenarios can be dreamt up but I used the model for a real scenario. The closest real scenario to the one you raise is 2012. That's Whitfield for Broomhead, Kennedy and Grundy. Who's lol now? Edited by Fifty-5

There should be a provision strictly forbidding clubs with Academy or Father/Son commitments from completing trades where only picks are exchanged. Trading picks for players is fine, but giving up a top 10 pick for multiple second rounders to bid on Academy players is clearly manipulating the system. It opens a can of worms that would allow Academy teams to collude behind the scenes and draft tamper. For example, Sheedy's relationship between Essendon and GWS could play a part in this.

Is there a provision which stops Academy clubs from trading out all their first and second rounders for established players, then hoard a bunch of third rounders to use for Academy bidding? It's the equivalent of paying for a car with a jar of 5c coins.

I will wait on that a few years...

Amen. Said the same thing to someone earlier. Not only are they paying coins but using a dodgy exchange rate.

To claim your academy/father son player you should have to use a pick in that round in the draft. It opens it right up when these clubs have worked out how to slide down the order.

Luckily we are switched on this year and getting in on the deals. Carlton, Essendon and us have now all used the clubs with academy picks to make win-win deals. In fact we probably got the lesser one of the bunch. Essendon and Carlton had huge steals.

Reported he may be involved in some new drug related controversy. More on 7 news tonight.

On SEN they are saying he was filmed allegedly snorting a line of white substance. Will be on Channel 9 after 7pm.

Will fit in well down at St. Kilda. It's just a shame that the Saints Disco has been defunct for so many years.

Wonder if they sat on it until the deal went through...

With 100% certainty; Essendon infiltrated the media years ago. Robbo would be licking his lips right now; he couldn't hide his disdain for Carlisle on 360.

Jake's certainly not alone in his escapades though, could post half a dozen anecdotes I've witnessed of players on the icing sugar.

Could be a practical joke gone wrong?

What kind of stupid footballer would willingly allow themselves to be videoed snorting a line of coke?

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
