Reports tonight that Adelaide is in the hunt to sign Alex Keath, as the Victorian cricketer weighs up his sporting future.

Keath played for the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup and was a Gold Coast selection in its initial squad chosen more than a year before their introduction into the AFL but chose cricket ahead of football but seems to have fallen out of favour with the Victorian Bushrangers and is tipped play cricket this summer in South Australia.

There is a Demon connection because Keath has played his club cricket with the Melbourne Cricket Club.

Amazing how time flies isn't it?

For those who don't remember, Keath was a 196-7cm CHF type who was pre-listed by Gold Coast as a seventeen year old. He declined to play for them and signed on with the Bushrangers to play cricket instead. While he had a fair bit of success with the Australian Junior cricket side playing with guys like Pat Cummins, he didn't kick on and has now been cut from the Vic squad.

Keath is now eligible to be listed as a Category B rookie, that being a player crossing from another code to play AFL. Despite being an elite junior, he's been out of the game long enough to qualify. This means that he can go to any club he likes outside the draft and be paid outside the salary cap for two years while they see if he's still got his footballing mojo. This is the same path Mark Blicavs took to Geelong.

Even though we're reasonably well off for talls, I really hope Melbourne is one of the clubs trying to talk him into crossing back over.

I agree RM, Alex Keith was a disappointment, 'batting for the other team', as it were.

I hope we can talk him into coming here, & we throw him a lifeline... the new development team here, I think, is second to None.

I believe he's decided to have one last crack at the red ball game over the next 12 months and if it doesn't work out will try his luck with the Crows in 2017.

Did you read the article?

Adelaide are pretty much financing him to have one last shot at cricket, before he then commits to them if it doesn't work out.

As a gun junior he's a pretty decent prospect for a Category B rookie but I'm not big on paying guys who won't even commit. Plus he was likely to leave Victoria to get involved with another states cricket program.

Not a bad lark really - if he fails at Cricket again this year he throws in the towel and walks in to an AFL club. Not an opportunity too many are presented with I wouldn't think.

He's already failed at cricket, despite being given unbelievable opportunities.

My guess is that it will be the same with footy.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
