POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 16

Featured Replies

Loved Harmes after the hit from lions player in the 3rd it was hard he was hurt but straight up and in . They were gathering momentum and he stood up like many did .

ANB looked like he couldn't find top gear and was a step off his usual pace .

Last years game at Etihad against Brisbane was the worst game I've ever seen (and we lost!). Sounds like the standard of this one was similar and we WON! Enough said! Go DEES!

Haha.

Or generally there are a few of us who are expecting more after 8 years of the most embarrassingly bad footy the AFL has ever seen.

By all means, feel free to be content with ordinary football and ordinary wins and following an ordinary side.

I'm searching for a bit more from this club atm.

We still have a bunch of blokes who consistently turn the ball over and make shocking decisions. We're the worst skilled side in the league by a mile.

No. Second worst skilled side. We were playing the worst.

Sheez, the blokes played a few games, managed to kick 3 goals in his first appearance, played the Sub on two occasions and you've got him in your sights.

Wow.

Doesn't really remind me of Grimes at all. He's a beautiful kick and makes good decisions. Was outpositioned a few times today, but he'll learn.

Yes I did.

It was like watching Melbourne at their worst going up against Melbourne at their second worst.

Oh, what negativity! A win is a win. Freo were not too flash against Carlton but they will take a win like we should.

Travis Cloke out for 3 weeks.. Just inagine if we beat the Saints!!

I bet Roos is absolutely spewing we aren't sitting 12th on 7 wins, especially as we tire coming into the end of the season.

I reckon the young kids are knackered and if we don't get over the Saints, we'll struggle to get another win locked away this year.

You don't think we'll beat Carlton?

Just on Brisbanes midfield.... would have to be the biggest disappointment in the AFL this season.

I know theyve had injuries but they just look like a dysfunctional unit despite all the 'big names'.

Beams, Rich and Christensen are all lazy footballers.

i never believed the hype around Brisbane, two players are not going to make much of a difference to their list, they have no forwards, if they game was in reverse, if we played the second half like the first half, and played the first half like the second half, there would not be all this negativity, get a grip people do u know how much of a mental hurdle it is for your team to win more then 4 games, we have not beaten Brisbane for a while , next week is another mental hurdle beating the saints, football is 5% skill and 95% between the ears, we will beat the saints most are going on as if the saints are a champion side.

Jones was one of the only who stood up in the 3rd quarter.

Exactly. But then the comment came from someone who thought Gawn was rubbish last week. Not a great reader of the game.

Bring back Salem and Kent and this is our future (maybe even Hunt).

I was at the game today and watched Stretch running to the i/change bench two or three times and he was out on his feet.

I hope we see the kids get plenty of games, but I'm happy to see Michie (Brayshaw)/M Jones (Stretch and ANB) come in here and there, to give the kids a week off.

They look pretty spent.

Absolutely rubbish game but a few positives e.g..plank hands marked a few and although at times we were in limbo (waiting for Brisbane to run over the top of us) we managed to hold them at bay. Either that or their goal kicking was as bad as ours last week.

Never disappointed to win but geez it was horrible to watch and would have been worse had we lost.

So u think on this form we will beat saints then?

And given the same circumstances of today's match the saints will let us kick one goal after half time if we r in a similar situation?

Very lucky to get the win and it beats losing again but it was horrific to watch.

Geez they are looking pretty ordinary in the game tonight against Ninthmond.....

You don't think we'll beat Carlton?

You're right, very good point. Maybe one more... We might be fine, it just feels like the younger players are getting a bit cooked and it will be really interesting to see whether we've improved or fallen off a bit when we get the return bout against St. Kilda next week.

I guess my point was more that not taking advantage of those opportunities a few weeks ago might mean we end up really disappointed in the final wash up of this season.

I think it's the worst game of football I've ever seen.

The game as a spectacle is the pits.

Exactly. But then the comment came from someone who thought Gawn was rubbish last week. Not a great reader of the game.

Gawn's tap work was rubbish for three quarters last week. Today he was very good.

If we beat St.Kilda, Carlton and pinch one of the games at Etihad, that gives us 8 wins and a decent season. Any more would be a bonus.

Geez they are looking pretty ordinary in the game tonight against Ninthmond.....

Doesn't look like they'll have Riewoldt either.

Doesn't look like they'll have Riewoldt either.

What happened?

If we beat St.Kilda, Carlton and pinch one of the games at Etihad, that gives us 8 wins and a decent season. Any more would be a bonus.

If we could win 3 of our last 7 games and finish on 8 wins then that gets a tick from me. I'm not sure we can do it, and plenty depends on how we run out the season, but it's achievable.

I think it's the worst game of football I've ever seen.

You should have been at the Real Madrid v AS Roma match last night. Most boring game I've ever watched.

Sheez, the blokes played a few games, managed to kick 3 goals in his first appearance, played the Sub on two occasions and you've got him in your sights.

Wow.

did you actually read what i said? Clearly not. So here it is again for you:

ANB to me is someone i'm just not sold on. Reminds me a lot of Grimes in the way he goes about it. Will need to watch him more before i make any sort of decision on him.

Now to break it down even more for you, I mean in comparison to other youngsters that just look the part already. Never said he wouldn't make it, just said i am not sold on him yet like other youngsters. Which i then followed by saying i will have to watch more of him before making a decision on him, like some other posters do by either calling him a "future star" etc.

So really to say i have him in "my sights" is just absolutely incorrect, because if anything i am allowing him to play more games before i make my mind up about him.

Where have you been Reverand?

I thought you might have joined HER upstairs.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
