YOUNG key forward Jesse Hogan will miss this Sunday’s match against Geelong due to hamstring tightness.

Hogan was named in Melbourne’s squad on Thursday night but was withdrawn from the side on Friday, with Jordie McKenzie brought into the squad of 25.

Noooo!!! The hulk is going to miss this Sunday's match vs cats. Worst news after last week's top performance :(

Now Dawes will really have to step up!!

:(

We aren't playing finals this season so couldn't care less.

Would rather they manage his loads for longevity when we win all our flags in 3-7 years time.

Why on earth Jordy? Why not Fitzy?

Another hamstring. That makes about 7 now. Wtf is Misson doing

I'm intrigued by Fitzy's fall from the team. Surely he's worth a game? Jordie won't offer us anything in the midfield. At least Fitzy might up forward or back. I dread to think of our forward structure this weekend. Doesn't make sense.

Look on the bright side - at least he wont be emotionally scarred by the massacre

I believe Fitzy is out hurt. Surely another ruckman will be playing on the pine with McKenzie being brought into the side.

McKenzie isn't playing FFS.

People really need to learn the difference between the 25 man squad and the final team.

Fitzy was named for Casey

Think I'll rearrange my sock drawer Sunday and fast forward to Brayshaw highlights late in the day.

Hammy tightness not a tear. Really really common with back issues. If it were life and death to play finals he would play

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
