Clearly none of you have ever been to a game in SA or WA, they boo EVERYTHING the opposition does, EVERYTHING.

I booed Cooney one year and got bellowed down by a toothless bulldogs supporter for booing a champion, bet the same bloke boos him when they play Essendon.

Anyone telling me that calling Goodes a monkey is racist can go and get [censored], i will call him a monkey because he looks like one TO ME. I will not scream it at him during a game or start a conversation off with "Hey you know how Goodes looks like a monkey...". It really angers me that i am being called a racist, I'm calling a shovel a shovel, I didn't want to use the word spade in case i get called racist, not if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, it must be a duck. I couldn't care less if he is black white yellow or grey, HE LOOKS LIKE A GODDAMN MONKEY TO ME. Why is that Racist? Because he says so? Because according to him his people have been called that for a long time? Funny, i have never heard of an Indigenous person being called a monkey before.

I call Hird dumbo, which I have know numerous WHITE people called this, and Luke Ball a gnome, also many people called this, because that's what they look like TO ME. It has nothing to do with race. I wouldn't call a black person a gnome because i have never seen a black gnome to compare them to. But if i did then i could call Will Smith a giant gnome. Or is that racist? Maybe his ancestors were called gnomes.

What about Lin Jong? If i was indeed a racist would i then be booing Lin as well? He would have to be the easiest target in the AFL for me to show my white superiority.

Then there is also Bachar Houli, who looks like what the media have instilled in our minds as a terrorist, people can be called what they look like without the need for the race card to be played. I have a mate that is not Muslim, no middle eastern blood in him at all and we call him terror suspect, his stupid [censored] bag beard makes him look like one. Who is the racial vilification victim here?

I can understand that there are people out there deliberately calling him a monkey because Goodes sees it as being racist, and they are doing it to get this sort of rise out of him, but it is not as simple as you are a racist and you are not a racist. They are many multitudes of colour between.

My opinion.

He wasn't called an ape mate. Need to get your facts right before mouthing off like a bird brain.

That's what Goodes/The Swans/Eddie everywhere agreed to tell the press in order to protect the young girl.

What she ranted was not even close and would be considered racist in anyone's language.

Being the operative word. For those who can be bothered, reading a book titled Voltaire's Bastards sheds some much needed light on such imperfections.

Now there's a reasoned argument if ever I saw one. When you can't mount an reasoned response you attack the person.

Try reading a bit harder. Keith W has done a good deal of research. For someone such as the shrill LG to attack the poster referring to his research is absurd as your entering this interlude with such stunning clarity.

Agree. I don't like Adam Goodes and it's not because of race. Frankly the race card crap that is being pedalled is another great example of the ridiculous 'walking on eggshells' approach of our pathetic media.

I am certain there are some elements that attack Goodes because of his race and that is abhorrent. But there are plenty of indigenous players that don't get boo-ed at the footy as there are plenty of white players that get boo-ed like Ballantyne.

Here is a list of reasons why people like me don't like Goodes:

1. He has a history of staging and getting a soft ride from the umps

Plenty of players do, extremely few of them get booed to the level Goodes was against the Hawks

2. He has had numerous examples of sliding into a contest on his knees and hurting a player on the ground. The tribunal has been pathetic at punishing him for this.

Plenty of players do, extremely few of them get booed to the level Goodes was against the Hawks

3. He reaction to the 13yo girl was frankly pathetic and smacked of grandstanding. No-one can defend the girl except to say that she was 13. She was named and shamed and it was largely to do with how Goodes handled the matter. It was grandstanding at its worst.

He was reacting to a racist comment in the heat of the moment. I would be astonished if he had time to even really analyse who the person was who yelled the comment before turning and pointing them out let alone weigh up the pros and cons of doing so and whether the person who did so was a male or female and how old they were

4. The McGuire incident. I'm no McGuire fan and he stuffed up suggesting they get Goodes to help promote Kong. But McGuire bent over backwards to try and right the wrong. Goodes in another show of petulant grandstanding refused to accept the apology

Why should he accept the apology? McGuire said an idiotic and racist thing and should be held to account. He shouldn't be let off just because it's going to affect his public image as a media personality and Collingwood President

5. The speeches he gave after receiving the Australian of the Year were graceless, divisive, inappropriate, inaccurate and tarnished the good will of the community in having him as our choice for AOTY. It was in total ill-taste and vilified white Australians. He accused all of our ancestors of "rape, murder, theft and slaughter". He accused us of having a racist constitution and that indigenous people in Australia today don't have the opportunities that white people have - clearly ignoring the obvious irony of him being a millionaire football player that has done alright. He could have used the platform to lead and bring people together and urge his fellow indigenous Australians to work with us to help improve indigenous living standards.

This is the crux of it - he says things white Australia finds uncomfortable and would rather have swept under the carpet. Yeah, if you're good at playing sport and can entertain the masses with ball tricks you may make it but for the vast majority of Indigenous Australians they still live in conditions comparable to apartheid South Africa. Apparently "vilifying" white Australia by pointing out acts of genocide since settlement is worse than the actual genocide itself. Crazy logic.

I don't like Adam Goodes and it has nothing to do with the colour of his skin.

Spot on as usual Pro-Dee, exactly the level I expected from you. Why can't Goodes just keep his mouth shut? Stop standing up for his race. Sure they've had their country taken over, their culture and history destroyed, their children taken from them, their communities shut down, but why does he have to remind us of that? Can't he just be a dumb footballer and relieve himself on bars and beat his wife like the rest of "us"? He needs to fit in better or else we'll send him back on the boat he came in on....

Haha exactly stuie- love it or leave it hey?

If you don't understand the link between an Ape/Monkey or the related "accusation" of same word mis reported as part of the deemed words that were used as a racist slur against Goodes by the young girl some time back (which started the Goodes/racist rant controversy) then you are dumber than I originally thought.

And I thought dumb & dumber was about as dumb as it gets!

Oh yes, and to hell with the child's rights to privacy and protection. She can get marched away by security, held in a back room for hours for questioning, called the "face of racism", have her family interviewed at length, made to give a grovelling publicised apology, and subject to god knows what that we haven't been privy to, all when she doesn't have a racist bone in her 13 year old body.

She naively called the large man an ape. Acceptable? No. But that was her crime. A one on one between her and Goodes immediately after the incident should've and would've sufficed. Couldn't have that though. This was an opportunity to have a knee jerk reaction and turn her into the "face of racism". You can't pass those up.

Did Goodes orchestrate the over the top response from security?

Did Goodes orchestrate the channel 7 cameras to focus in on the incident? Or the papers to put the girls photo online?

Give me a break.

Unfortunately there we some. See the rednecks which were itching for a fight outside the Richmond Town Hall? The point I am making is that to hold Keith Windschuttle's research up as empirical, when it flies in the face of all other known facts, is just as ridiculous.

The 13-year old girl shouting explicit racist abuse really is the face of a lot of racism in Australia. She personally didn't really care or know much at all about Goodes' heritage, but she picked up her lines from adults around her and just gave them a go because it was fashionable in her social circles.

I guess what I'm saying is, there may well actually be not very many 'real' racists in Australia, but they are loud, they think they 'stand for real Australia' and they are being allowed too often to get away with making that claim. Their influence produces a lot of racist effects, often enacted by people who personally aren't motivated by racism. But the results, especially for many Indigenous Australians, are just as real and damaging.

And this is where it gets tricky; I would argue that it is not appropriate to boo Adam Goodes, even for earnest reasons, because the groundswell that gets that booing going has its heart in racism, and joining that chorus makes racism more confident. But I can see ow that would feel unnatural and timid to a lot of people.

Its about where do you draw the line and say "I don't much like Adam Goodes, but I'm not going to get stuck into him, that has been made toxic because of so many racists yelling from the sidelines".

When the government of the nation thinks its OK to send the military in to police indigenous communities, when people who live in remote communities on land their ancestors have lived for thousands of years are derided by the PM as making "lifestyle choices", when the PM and government deny the genocidal history such as occurred following the release of the Stolen Generations report, when the PM and government run scare campaigns against indigenous Australians stating that they'll claim peoples backyards following the Mabo/Wik decisions, when nothing is done to address the rampant poverty and racism in indigenous communities which leads to things like higher rates of abuse, imprisonment, suicide/self harm, preventable diseases etc etc - is it any wonder most otherwise "normal" Aussies react the way they do? These things flow down from the top.

The word ape/monkey was never used Pman.

Was much worse than that to the degree to that the "words" used are unrepeatable on here.

Goodes was obviously so shocked at what WAS said at the time that he made a spur of the moment instinctive reaction to point her out in the crowd.

What happened after they (and Goodes) realised how young she was resulted in a different version of said rant being touted to the media.

Anyone putting forward an argument against Goodes using the Ape/Monkey line needs to think again as this wasn't what he reacted to!

Well perhaps if you had at least heard him speak, you would know. In the early 2000's he had plenty of publicity, when those that subscribe to the 'black armband" version of Australian history rebuttal were trumpeting their cause.
