Can we bottle what Daniel Cross has

Featured Replies

Haven't read any threads today but thought Cross was our best 4 Q player and has been our most consistent player this year. A great inspiration to the team.

Good onya Crossy...

I thought Crossy was best afield for us

Time to offer him an extension

100%. Absolutely vital for us Crossy.

We need him more than he needs us, sign him up asap.

This guy isn't even nearly done.

So damn consistent... I bet Bernie is still going this strong at age 32 also. Another year for Crossy in 2016 surely... and maybe more after that.

100% another year if he's up for it.

Love him and everything he brings to the club.

If looks are anything to go by, Vince looks about 22 so he has at least another ten years left.

Crossy has been very consistent all year and whilst he continues to move the football backwards it is usually to a safer option and a better user of the football. His marking is elite and whilst he may be a tad slow his effort makes up for it.

If his kicking was at a good enough standard he would have been one of the best players the game had seen.

I did find it interesting that in the two games before Geelong he made a couple vital mistakes that seemed out of character, in terms of manning up the loose man Oxley, but he also came on the ground with 40 seconds to go against St Kilda, but himself on the back flank and moved Michie to the wing without saying anything about flooding back.

That said, I would say he has done enough to earn a contract extension and then the year after a possible coaching role in some form.

Cross is the only player I've ever seen who uses the ball better when he is horizontal than when vertical. His ability to rocket out a handball while either prone on the ground, or diving through mid-air is expectional. His marking overhead is also extremely reliable.

Has been in our top 10 this year IMO and is a dead certainty to go around again for at least another one. As he's never been a player who has relied on pace and has a history of first rate fitness, I see no reason he shouldn't be able to play well in to his 30s.

I want 100+ MFC games from Cross. Does he have any children? F&S ?

The other thing I've heard and i reckon saty could confirm this is crossy absolutely loves teaching our young blokes. Brayshaw and co are in good hands

He is the epitome of senior/mature recruiting done right.

I still can't believe the Bulldogs let him go.

10 Games of the year left

I believe he is on 239 games - Sneaky final to make 250 :)?

Is it WADA approved?

Crossy has been outstanding for us, and a 'feather in the caps' of Roosy and our Recruiting Team. Moreover, I reckon he would still be adding significant value at Footscray, both on and off the field. Complete professionals like him add value wherever they go.

98% time on ground this week - more than anyone else on either team. Normally it's the domain of KPP players to spend that amount of time on the ground, not mids or flankers. Starting to think the guy might actually be superhuman. He's being asked to shoulder a very heavy workload and is doing a damn fine job of it.

Not to mention he's 32, that's extraordinary!

He is a beauty. Has there been anyone else cross over from another club towards the end of his career who has given so much to his new club?

I feel like Daniel Cross is giving us those 2/3 years we never got when we delisted our last great captain James McDonald? Thoughts?

I think the Daniel Cross signing was very important to help fill the cultural void left by the James McDonald debacle.

As good or better work ethic and commitment ( and that is saying a lot), and maybe better user of the ball.

An outstanding recruitment

Wouldn't be against giving him another season tbh. He's almost playing the best footy of his last 4 years and there's still plenty of room on this list for leadership. If the younger guys surpass him next year, great- play them; but in the interim he is appearing a crucial part of this team and would be proud to get him to 250.

I want to see the father son eligibility brought down to 75 games, Or 5 consecutive seasons on an AFL senior list. this allows for players struck down by injury, or the ones who may switch clubs.

some players have gone on to 38 yrs of age

liked that little pun you snuck in there ernest :)

He's a coaches dream, as you know exactly what you're going to get. Even if he starts to tail off in the next couple of years, he's precisely the kind of player you want setting standards for the young'uns, AFL or VFL, and worth the place on the list. Exactly what we should've done with Junior McDonald, but stuffed up royally. My guess is though that he'll still be getting a senior gig in 2016, and 2017.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
