Living in Perth and depressed by our score in our clash with Hawthorn, I decided to watch the TV game in Perth, Adelaide V St Kilda. Ex Dee Scott Thompson stood out with 35 disposals and i couldn't help thinking, What if? What if we had kept him at Melbourne? He is so cool and reliable and composed.What a difference he would make to our struggling midfield. Water under the bridge now though isn't it?

Rubbish.

He was already good when he left Melbourne. I was gutted when he left because anyone with half a brain could tell he was going to be a champion. Didn't get on well with Danners apparently that helped him make his decision (sick dad), but would have liked MFC to do a lot more to keep him.

In the end we got Moloney for him I think. Whilst Thompson was always be better than Moloney, in a situation where a very good player wants to leave, to at least get Moloney out of the deal was pretty good.

Fact - He got on well with Danners

Fact - He was not an absolute gun. He was a good & very promising young player who had injury problems.

Fact - He was contracted to Melbourne & stated at the time that he wanted to go back to Adelaide for family reasons but if a trade could not be done he would stay with Melbourne.

Fact - Daniher decided to let him go probably because he was licking his chops at having a pick of a number of Geelong youngsters of which they chose Moloney.

A lot of opinions there Cranky. You probably know ST and Danners well, but they are still just an opinion. The claim of 'fact' has to be one of the most misused on Land.

As I recall in 2004 we were looking seriously good until he injured himself just after mid-season. We managed to win a few more and top the ladder after round 18, but his loss was felt. I was filthy when he left.

While he was good at Melbourne he still he was still a bit inconsistent. Soon as he went to Adelaide he absolutely sky rocketed in terms of development.

If you think he would have developed better at the dees your kidding yourself LOL.. He developed into a beast because he had the likes of Simon Goodwin, Mark Recciuto, Andrew McLeod, Tyson Edwards to learn off.
