Hawks throwing it about

Featured Replies

Nothing to do with the Dorks Hood. This is one of the AFL's pin up boys in one of their top 3 Vic clubs. Protected species. They want as many of their big guns up and running in as many prime time broadcast matches as possible throughout the year ie., bigger ratings = additional advertising revenue = more willingness for broadcaster/s to bid higher on next contract

Rusty if I was running the AFL I would be happy for the Dorks to lose these two for three weeks plus so we can get some equalisation going. Because the clubs and the Commission are hopeless in that area this is our only hope. This extended domination by the Dorks and other top teams will cost the competition over time in my opinion.

Interesting flow on from Clarkos swing at the obnoxious Port fan last week...

Interesting flow on from Clarkos swing at the obnoxious Port fan last week...

Yes thought that one myself. The leadership team emulating their hothead coach in the same week. If someone is in your face just lash out.

If Lewis and Hodge were named Dawes they would get. 6 weeks each.

There are some Hawthorn people on MRP. They will probably be extra strict so they don't seem biased. At least 2 weeks each.

I wonder when an eye for an eye will be dealt out to hawthorn? Can't remember when they've been physically attacked in this era. Not saying it's right, just saying it might be necessary...

Its right to attack them and its long overdue. It is absolutely essential if we are ever to be taken seriously.

As I said elsewhere Harford is on the MRP expect maximum leniency.

Isn't Brad Sewell also new to the MRP panel?

The hodge one is flat out assault.

4 weeks or more is what it deserves.

Elbow to the face, launched himself at an unsuspecting victim. I don't care if swallow played on. That had potential to break his jaw or worse. Disgusting.

The Hodge hit was assault, elbow strike the the head while not involved in the play.

Should be charged with assault, why is it ok because it is on green grass?

Just watched both of those incidents.

They are utterly outrageous. What dogs.

If Hodge did that in a pub, he'd be in jail.

And Lewis - he knew damn well he was nowhere near that and just smashed Goldstein for no reason at all.

Also noticed Mitchell gave someone a clip around the ears early in the AFL's highlight package.

That 4 weeks for both. Anything less will be a disgrace.

Nope, 100%, they will cop at least two weeks.

Moneider - you are naïve. Do you seriously believe that the tribunal is an impartial non partisan body?

I think Andrew Swallow might be in a bit of strife. His chin made forceful contact with Luke Hodge's forearm. On MRP history, that's at least two weeks.

I think we might also need to take into account the precedent set not so long ago by the tribunal: these incidents might have looked like blows to the head, might have felt like blows to the head, might even have sounded like blows to the head, but did anyone do a blood test?

Hodge should get Four and the other [censored] three

But 2 will do.

As long as they miss the Melbourne game.

getting a little bit carried away here with 3 & 4 weeks, both simple cases with nothing to argue, both will take the early guilty plea & either get 1 each or 2 each, lets hope its 2.

I appreciated that even if no one else did

I think going on earlier penalties this year the most either will get is three weeks. After all neither Goldstein or Swallow needed to have their heads surgically reattached or even had to spend the night in ICU. Even with both their records I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibilities both might be available to play the Dees with an early plea ... perhaps.

Totally different incidents. Hodge off the ball blatant hit. Has to be 3 you'd think

Lewis late to contest. 1 week I'd reckon

What's the issue? Those poor Hawthorn players had been harassed for well over 40 metres before they took action.

Just watched the showreel, was getting flashbacks to the Dipper and Dermie days.Thugs!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
