After watching the extended miced up version of Nathan Jones from Friday, and reading the numerous training reports discussing their banter etc. It's clear that Jones is acting like a mentor to 'Gus. We couldn't actually have Brayshaw be attached to a better person to learn from?

Give the extended video a watch below, Jones doesn't let Gus' get away with anything whether it is directing him at contests, or giving him advice in the rooms. I am proud of the man leading our team; we certainly have young Brayshaw in safe, safe hands:

What was equally as good was to see Brayshaw protect Jones in the Adelaide game melee. He literally dragged Jones out of the pack to ensure he didn't do something silly and get suspended. Amazing to see such a young man have that composure and gumption!

Looking out for each other! There is a special bond between those two already.

After watching Gus and Jones (Petracca also had a mentor but can't recall who) at the Qld camp I shuddered to think what it must have been like coming to the club 3-4 years ago. Massive strides have been made around how we bring kids into the club.

That leadership vacuum killed careers.

Of all the young guys on our list, I think Brayshaw screams maturity and leadership the most. Looking at a future captain

Probably also had something to do with the likes of Moloney and Sylvia being at the club and feeling entitled.

Thats fricken awesome, love the pfffttt every time he disposes of the ball...lol

Me too - loved it - like a boxer getting in a quick jab. We're very, very lucky to have Nathan Jones at our football club.

Forget the cash and the lifestyle how good would it be to experience the roar of the crowd (2.00 + 2.22 min mark) out on the ground? You can see how that could quickly become addictive

I've held Jonesy in very high regard for a long time now, but he just went up another notch in my estimation. He is a critical part of the 'new' Melbourne culture, and I'm 100% confident that we couldn't be in better hands to lead us forward.

He's certainly stepped up again has Mr Jones; admirable.

Definitely like the cut of Angus's cloth. We got this one right for sure.

We've turned the corner without doubt now

Edit.spelling lol

Jones is the reason why our youth brigade won't be tempted to leave the club for greener pastures.

When he finishes he will be known as one of the great captains of the club.

Love the part where Jones is on the bench saying, 'He'll kick this, I'm telling ya' he'll kick this. He eats these moments.' In reference to Hogan before he has a shot at goal on the half-time siren.

God damn I love him.

Angus was on triple m footy last saturday and he said that he lives around the corner from Jones and has been doing a fair bit of work with him and he said how good Jones has been to him. He said after training he and Jones hang around and have shots on goal.

When Angus lined up for his first goal last friday night Jones came over and said all the practice we do after training this is what we do it for. He said that helped him, so yes Jones is being a mentor and a great captain to him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
