Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Issues off the field killing the game

The show on Saturday mornings, Off the Bench on SEN (which is made by Crocmedia, not SEN) is just drivel.

You can tell Dr Turf is uncomfortable on this show as he has more class than that.

...but it's not nor pretending to be a footy show. It is a show of drivel with a little of sport thrown in occasionally.

Agree - shouldn't it be Crock Meida?

The only thing ruining the game for me is Dwayne Russell.

The rest I can overlook.

He is just awful and hasn't shown any sign of improvement

what is killing the game for me at the moment or at least reducing my enjoyment of the game is the new electronic signage around the ground. It relentlessly pours out advertising and slogans for the home team. On Friday night viewing the game from the Northern side at least for the first quarter was almost unbearable to the eye. What is particularly annoying is that it goes on continuously during game time. Not even any relief at half-time with the sound of announcements making discussion almost impossible. Headache materail and just another example how these things distract from the game.

Yes - looking across the ground from the first level it is just so intrusive, and pointless. I wouldn't have the slightest idea of what is being advertised. Just irritating.

And I have been on about the audio intrusions at the breaks for a long time - spoils the ambience of the game. Sounds more and more like American basketball every year. I had hoped that with Vlad leaving, the man who wants to Americanize every aspect of our game, it may have improved...but it hasn't.

Me too - Dwayne Russell is worse than McAvaney - and I thought that was impossible.

Sick to death of watching this game getting hijacked by off field matters were all the pre game & footy shows taking up the majority of air time.... We watch these shows to hear about the opinions from experts on actually on field performances etc..

The media is obsessed with controversial matters to a point were there are press conferences on every issue........I understand these matters are serious etc but they need to stop giving these idiots air time & fuelling it!

Yep - what about Richmond Classified (aka Footy Classified) - last night more than half the "show" was about Richmond apparently giving some team a walkover on Friday night - apparently all that "other" team had to do was run out on the field?? Led by C Wilson going on and ond on and on and on with Lloyd and Hutchison in support - G Lyon didn't help. Who was the other team and did they have to do anything else to win - what an insult - HELLO Garry. Then all the Clarko stuff - sure ideally he wouldn't have been there - but if those yobbos knew anything about the Battle of Britain - 1987 - The Oval - just ask Ian Aitken what Clarko is capable of - enough said. Caro has to thrive on this stuff as she doesn't know anything about the game ON THE FIELD!!

There is a line of thought that not knowing or reporting an incident is better then telling the truth.

I do not follow that line of thinking.

To me, its all about how an incident is handled by the sporting body which tells me if the sport is clean or dirty.

Sadly IMO the AFL has a long way to go before it can claim to be a fair, clean and family friendly competition.

Is there any decent footy TV show? they all seem a waste of time, particularly with so much stuff on the net these days most of which satisfy the needs. I am just not watching anything anymore only vision of the games.

Theres not a lot on TV full stop. Only I've really enjoyed was the British version of Sherlock Holmes which was 3 movie length episodes a year drawn out over 3 years.

I listen to a lot of this dribble, but don't take it too seriously. Behind a lot of these agendas - are money driven intentions. From the 'fabricated' stories churned out by the media, right down to the overreaction of domestic violence, there will always be groups willing to push an agenda - if it is financially beneficial to them. The moral crusaders (white knights) amongst the media who have an opinion on EVERYTHING - are the same guys going through bins, not fact checking, and making up stories with no actual basis to them. On the weekend in the paper, I think I even read a Mick Malthouse after game interview that wasn't even done by him, a few years ago I'd of nearly fallen of my chair, these days I am not surprised one bit.

I totally agree, ive spoken to many people who think its abhorrent. The electronic signage is highly contrasting even clashing colors changing many times per minute and is so distracting its very hard to watch the game. I wonder what the players association thinks?? Sometimes it changed 2 or 3 times whilst players were taking set shots....a lot of behinds were scored also.

I found this article from Chris Judd very interesting:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/chris-judd-risk-of-random-abuse-becomes-pay-day-for-onlookers-with-smartphones-20150428-1muzqz.html

Gives a considered perspective we don't often get - that of the players. One of the best articles I've ever read from a footy player.

One of the reasons why radio is so much better than TV is that you can watch it upside down and it doesn't change the experience.

By the way, this thread is a crock. Off field issues are not killing the game at all.

you're right it's not killing the game

but it is killing to some degree one's enjoyment of the game

show 1 out of 10 is probably the best "Opener" i have ever seen in a TV Series.

I had to go out when it finished. I was to pumped to sleep! :)

The 2 best I've seen to date for openers, are the monologue 'why America is not the greatest country in the world' The Newsroom...and the West Wing, POTUS bike accident and Sam with the call girl etc.

I'm looking forward to checking out 'Fargo', have seen some shorts and it looked good. Thanks again.

I honestly hardly even noticed it, was just like white noise in the background.

Good article. I agree with a lot of Judd's sentiments; but I think that if you're "lucky" enough to be a bystander to an unusual event like the Chris Judd one, you should be able to record that event and distribute footage of it for more than just the price of a gulp of air. You had the awareness to recognise that people would be interested, and wherewithal to go out and distribute it. It's people who try to coordinate these events for profit that should be ostracised.

Melbourne supporters whinging about the AFL, TV advertising and gambling - the irony is thats the only things keeping the MFC alive.

I suggest you first look up how much money Collingwood gets from the AFL. Once you've done that, you can also go and join another club's forum as well. We support the Dees here.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
