Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan

Regardless of contract machinations lets just enjoy THIS year at the very least. Cheer loud and hard whenever he kicks a goal or takes an awesome pack mark. Let him enjoy playing for the mighty Dees.

When I read posters saying they won't be able to enjoy it even if he is tearing the opposition a new one it seriously makes me cringe. I would understand if he were out of contract this year but he isn't.

As has been pointed out relentlessly on this thread, there are a multitude of reasons why Jesse shouldn't sign until October at the very least. Marquee players especially.

Any young marquee players who have signed since the end of last season are either stupid, had a brown paper back passed under the table or their manager isn't doing his due diligence.

So for this year at least just relax and enjoy the Jesse show :-)

So perhaps the delay was mutual, as reported.

You're living in lala land. So the club, who has been trying to extend his contract for the last 6-9 months and who were eager to open negotiations for an extension at the end of last season, has all of a sudden decided that we're ok with postponing negotiations with this generational player for another season when every man and his dog will be in his/his managers ear with an offer to leave including at least one club from his home state. Why the hell would they do that? They've been pretty clear this is the guy we'll be building our team around for the next 10 years so if we could lock him in you don't think we'd do so?

I'm not saying he's going to leave but to think the club wouldn't have preferred to keep negotiations open and get something locked in sooner rather than later is delusional.

Also if the club has only offered 3/5 year deals they are idiots. Give this guy the keys to the castle, offer him 10 years and we'll rise or fall with him. Lynch was given 10 years from the Bears and that worked out pretty well despite the initial setbacks.

The Jesse Hogan contract media attention is such a massive beat up!

The 2016 season hasn't started yet and he is contracted for the 2017 season.

Calm down people there is a lot more important things in life to worry about....

It's not a media beat up when the club has made it clear we want to lock him in on an extension and there is opportunities that will open up for him in WA. The club advertised that we were opening negotiations on an extension now he has delayed talks of course the media will pick it up. He is going to be one of the best players of his generation, this is a story.

I, for one, am not going to spend the rest of the season speculating about something that I have absolutely no control of. I heard a Dees supporter on the radio last night expressing his concern hat Hogan and McDonald might go. Until the Dees are a strong club then every player we have that is any good will prompt that speculation. In the minds of many, they can't see why would a decent player want to stay at a club that has little chance of playing finals. The club is getting stronger and hopefully we might even play finals either this year or next. Maybe it won't be long before good players from other clubs are seeking a transfer to the Dees? Until then, I'm going to try my best to enjoy the work of Hogan and McDonald (and Petracca and Salem and Brayshaw and Oliver and Viney and Kent) and all of the players who look like being really good. Try and enjoy.

In a way our club is at stake. It could be the end of us if he leaves and I'm being serious. Our supporter base is in big strife and there are plenty who would take a hit like this as the final straw. We NEED him to stay and be a marquee player and drag us up the ladder or it's very dangerous waters. Dramatic I know but I truly believe it.

He still has TWO years left! It is a total beat up and yes of course they know it will sell some papers because he is going to be one of the best players in the competition.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I am not worried at all and believe he will re-sign some time during pre-season for the 2017 season.

Jesse could win the coleman this year, our midfield looks much deeper, big max is looking at a podium finish in terms of the comps ruckman and the entries should be much better, and i don't believe there is a defender in the comp who could consistently beat Jesse one on one already.

Absolutely agree.  He is still 20, with his entire AFL career in front of him. He is only in his 2nd year and with 2 seasons left on his contract, a lot can happen between now and then. We keep forgetting that for AFL players, their football careers are their entire livelihood, so it would be against his own interests to put pen to paper right now.  He has a perfect right to weigh up his future.

That said, I am confident that the major drivers in whatever decision he does make, will not be money or the 'go home' factor.  He simply wants to see our footy club is clearly heading in the right direction and that he can see a future where he will play a pivotal role in a red hot finals campaign in the not too distant future.  And that is his right.

Kick ass in 2016 Jesse.

Even Ross Lyon just admitted on SEN that the "tyranny of distance" is a major reason they can't attract talent back to WA.

Who wants to put up with two x four hour flights across the Nullabor every second weekend ?  Especially when your 195cm with back issues and have already missed a year of your career.  And especially when past West Coast players are on record saying that the travel shortened some careers.  Hogan's manager has already stated that he wants to live in Melbourne.

He may leave the Dees at some stage, but it won't be to WA.

The situation isn't anything like Howe last year, Jesse has been in talks for a while now and to the point numbers and years are a part of it, he's been shown a vision of the future,

i am firmly of the belief, Jesse has an offer on the table and he and his manager simply want to see improvement before he signs away the next 5-7 years of his career, which is absolutely fair enough

just watch him train and you'll see he's totally invested in the club, he wants to be part of it.

Putting talks on hold is simply to quiet the speculation of Jesse signing in the very near future so he can make a calm and calculated decision in his own time, but i have no doubt he will sign on.

100% agree with this

A lot of players are signing extensions early despite waiting out the year. Zorko just locked away for a long term deal announced today also...hmm..

That is a good point.  Many many other club players are also signing.  While I am not worried about McDonald or Hogan waiting for the CBA I find it disconcerting that we seem to the only club whose players see it as an issue.

It is also disconcerting that our captain and our current B&F holder have come out and stated they believe our players should wait...effectively encouraging teammates to not sign.  No other club's leaders (or players for that matter) are saying anything like this.

I would prefer our leaders didn't publicly encourage contract deferral.  It would be terrible if all our OOC players wait for the CBA before signing while other clubs are shoring up their playing lists.

Are you really using the Lions as the poster club for retaining talent ?  Yeo, Docherty, Aish, Redden, Polec ring a bell ?

Also, you're aware Zorko was coming out of contract at the end of 2016 and Hogan is coming out end of 2017 ?

And you're familiar with an article in the HS last year stating "Dayne Zorko in no rush to extend his contract past 2016 as rumours of unrest persist" ?

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/brisbane/dayne-zorko-in-no-rush-to-extend-his-contract-past-2016-as-rumours-of-unrest-persist/news-story/c1e233904c88607224ff87cc8003611a

How about we let things unfold...

IF he leaves (and I'm not saying I think he will) and we continue to become a successful side it will hurt but the supporters will get over it. If he leaves and we continue to struggle on field it will be devastating for the MFC.

Listened to the broadcast of the NAB game over here last night on Grandstand.

The commentators were quite effusive with how the Dockers will sign both McCarthy and Hogan. To quote one commentator who said, "the fact that Jesse Hogan has put off contract talks just screams to me that he's coming home."

Clearly they're a parochial mob over here and logic is rarely included into these types of conversations.

They did continue to say that Freo will most likely slide after this season but then make another run for a flag in 4 to 5 years time - "just when Hogan and McCarthy will be in their prime," they said.

We wanted to lock him in long term early but ultimately it's up to him if he wants to upgrade early. I'm not concerned right now as it isn't until the end of next year that he comes out of contract. If he holds off until the end of 2017 then I will have a very nervous wait for that year!

But let's just focus on making 2016 a good year and make him WANT to be a part of the new Melbourne.

It's not a media beat-up when negotiations have stalled. Regardless how long was left on the contract, negotiations for an extension started and then were put on hold. That's a story especially with the best promising key forward in the comp.

Unfortunately facts aren't things reporters rely on, even a quarter of a story is enough for them.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
