different player, different club, has zero relevance to this discussion. If you are anybody in the 'footy world' who is outside our club there is a very strong chance you have a low amount of respect for us. That's just a fact. If you don't believe me, pretend you barrack for someone else and ask some random blokes at the pub tonight. You will not get a glowing assessment. Hogan, like everyone else, is part of that group. It will stay that way until we can prove otherwise and make it up around the top 4 for a number of consecutive years. These are hard truths, that you know to be true.

And some players want to be a part of the rise,  see Nathan Jones- he was quite content with staying with a rabble and it wasn't about current success with him, it was about loyalty and being part of a solution. Like you alluded too,  different players have different motivations,  I think it's disrespectful assuming Hoges will leave because we aren't a top 4 side,  or because the everyday retarded drunk down at the locallocal doesn't respect us.

How about we worry about him resigning when we're in his last year of contract.  That would be a good start.  Stop being so paranoid.  Put the beer down and step away from the curry

Yeah, it's a bizarre claim from Schwarz. Hogan is frankly stellar and while i share the notion that 1.5m a year starts to look unbalancing on the list, if there's any player worth it it is Hogan.

But Hogan is also taking a risk... what if by halfway through this season Weidemann has cleared his injury legacy, developed the fitness and is out and about providing a credible alternative? Would knock 250k off Hogan's maximum value. :)

Of course, I think really Hogan would just be delighted to have a strong partner up forward and the two of them could settle into becoming the game's best combo.

Remember the quotes pre-draft; "When Weideman went under the knife he was rated a top-three prospect on the rise — and little has changed."

I should clarify - I still wouldn't support paying Hogan 1.5mil under any circumstance.

We can only hope that these kids are vaguely sensible about money and will be 'content' with 10-year 750k deals that mean neither they nor any family member has to worry about money ever again.

I think all negotiations for AFL player (and coach) contracts should be required to be voiced in 'number of ordinary full time wage rates'*.

As in "Contract negotiations are progressing well, with the key sticking point being whether the player is worth 13 full-time-wage-equivalents or closer to 17 full-time-wage-equivalents."

And "Sylvia, who failed to play a game and 'retired' prior to the start of the season due to poor preparation, breaches of team rules and lack of effort in training, will immediately be paid out his salary of 8 full-time-wage-equivalents."

* I prefer median wage as a representation of 'ordinary wage', as average is heavily skewed by the peak at the top end of the bell-curve.

Sorry, but can someone please explain to me the conjecture going on about Hogan's contract? He has 2 years left on his contract. If he puts talks on hold at the end of next year then yes by all means I would be very worried, but he has 2 years left to go. People need to ease up.

It's very fair and reasonable for him to focus on his footy this year and work out what he wants to do as of the end of the season.

In saying that I would be giving him a Buddy- esque deal without question. He is an unbelievable talent. Some of his marks and positioning yesterday were seriously Carey like.

Freak.

The only problem is his putting talks on hold does not help him focus on his footy, exactly the opposite actually I would have thought. When we look at the recent history of free agents and other players out of contract we know some can handle the distractions better than others.

But having to outright lie to the public via the media must be a tough gig for young men hell bent on maximising their income. I hope Hogan is not like he who cannot be named!

Would love to have a separate thread for Hogan's contract head-banging and one for Hogan game play so I don't have to read through the crud to get my Hogan fix.

Yes, agree 100%.  Used to look forward to this thread, now its just full of negativity and paranoia.

Sounds like your average descent into ice addiction

Why can't the club offer a percentage of the salary cap, whatever that ends up being?

As our marquee player we offer 10% of the salary cap which this year would be about 1 million  if the cap goes up to 13 million he gets 1.3 million.

The 10% could be 7, 8, 9%  whatever, so he could sign now knowing that he will get an increase based on percentage of the new total.

There was one. Pretty sure it got merged with this thread.

Critical error by the mods if true.  Hopefully its recitfied ASAP. This is  a matter of life and death, only more important.

Sure!

So we leave the contract talk here and move to the other one for other Hogan talk?

But it wasn't. See my post above.

Seems like a good idea to me. When the second thread started someone suggested it should be merged with this but since it was actually discussing football issues I left it alone and I presume so did the other modes.

And also seperate threads for when he smiles, and his preferred coffee types.

That was me who suggested the merge.

Any thread regards Hogan at the moment will end up with discussion about his contract - it's unavoidable given the current media hype.

Hopefully now that games have started we can focus on and marvel at his footballing ability.

You're probably right, but I thought it was worth some small hope that the different titles would suggest different concentrations.

SEN reported this morning that Cale Hooker has been offered a five year lucrative deal by Fremantle to join them at seasons end.

Wow, 5 years for Hooker?! Freo really are desperate for more talls. He'll be 28 and fresh off a year out of the game by the time he laces up the boots for them.

And they're going to get Mcarthey as well

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
