The current collective bargaining agreement expires in October - with the new tv deal you'd expect the AFLPA to negotiate a better deal for the players. It would be stupid for any player who doesn't have to, to negotiate new deals under current arrangements, and it wouldn't be shocking if the PA  have requested that members with two or more years remaining hold off extension talks till the end of the year.

You'd think so but from what we have seen during the Ess saga they may negotiate a drop is player wages...

I was actually searching for a gif of lemmings going off a cliff, but found that one to be more appropriate. I think it's from a Spanish tv show.

One of the funniest  gifs Ive seen.. Thanks

Excellent, now perhaps this thread wont get to 1000 pages due to mass hysteria.

Still two years to go (potentially). This thread could break the interwebs.

Be funny to look back on all this in a year's time

I think it is a toss up between security and potential .....Sign now for 5 years and if you do a knee or other injury or lack of fitness or form you still get your money

If you have the same injuries or lack of form in the last year of your contract your value will drop.

Just thinking out loud.

I have a recollection of a story my father told me about Dame Nellie Melba.

In her contract it stated that she would be the highest paid female singer in the world. So regardless of what went on, if another singer received a pay rise then hers automatically went up. Perhaps a similar offer to Hogan.  Not the female singer bit!

I think this is a wise move by his manager and I am not worried yet. If next year they say they want to wait till the end if the season then I will worry.

In just one completed season there isn't a player Melbourne fans have ever loved more....I can't image how much it's gonna hurt if he leaves in his absolute prime.

Spot on.

Agreed!

If anyone is still feeling nervous may this be reassuring:  "Hogan hasn’t seen many victories in his three years at the club, but if it can continue on its current trajectory then he’ll sign for life....He wants to see the club achieve success as much as the most passionate Demons fan and is heavily invested in making that happen...It’s hard to see him walk out on the Demons just as they, including best mate James Harmes, are about make a return to finals for the first time in more than a decade".

That is fairly strong!  And among the tea leave reading by all the journos on this, there is zero indication that he may leave.

It is actually good to be dealing with a sensible player manager.  Remember the mess the respective manager's of Scully, Clarke and Howe made of negotiations and the merry dance they played with the club.  This is different, the delay seems genuine and not gaming by the manager.

This pretty much Somes up my thoughts! We win more games and make good progress.. He stays!

Remember Pavlich was the same.. Was from SA and early days the crowd went after him.. He stayed at Fremantle..

I just hope we continue to screw Fremantle.. Thanks for Jeff White & Jeff Farmer!!

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
