DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4

Featured Replies

As with round one, it's tough because there are many who can get votes.

I can't fit TMac in. That's just weird.

6 - Jones. The workhorse. He did what was needed when it was needed. Great captain's game.

5 - vanDemon. 12 (13?) tackles. He was massive, threw his weight around and just impacted the game.

4 - Hogan. Could easily be higher. His presence is insane for such a young guy.

3 - Vince. Again had a shut-down role and kept Cotchin from really impacting. Did plenty with the ball himself.

2 - Garland. Did a great job down back. Got plenty of the ball and rebounded well.

1 - Garlett. Was a massive pest in the forward half and knew exactly how to play in the wet. Any other day he'd have more points.

6. Jones

5. Vandenberg

4. Vince

3. Hogan

2. Tyson

1. Garland

Sorry to the rest of the team

Jamar, Michie, Garlett and another 3-4 players unlucky to miss out.

6. Jones, who was amazing all night. That checkside kick was perfect
5. Vandenberg, who won the game for us when it was up for grabs

4. Jesse Hogan, who is a sexy sexy beast of a forward, and gave us a target all night

3. Vince, who with his outside and inside game has essentially grabbed that tagging role we've needed for so long.
2. Salem, who was an amazing small defender/mid/defensive backman
1. Jamar, whose taps and around the ground work was as good as I've seen for a while.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
