Well, don't think it's going to be such a straight forward, agreeable thread as last week.

Seems like a few put their hand up at Casey which is pleasing. Names to consider bringing in: Toumpas, Grimes, JKH, Michie

Who can we genuinely see moved out (don't say whole team)? Howe, Kent, Frost, Dawes (can't believe it would happen myself, but maybe).

Haven't quite digested Canberra yet to offer my concrete changes, but interested in yours...

I'd like Toump and Grimes to do it again at Casey. Just really feel comfortable dominating consecutive games. I'd love to see them back performing for the red and the blue.

I think its a case of brining the same boys to Adelaide as the ones I would drop on todays performance are usually our best performed.

No point in dropping Kent, he has speed and we miss that. We showed today how much we miss that. Stretch has speed but hes not ready (16 touches) and I'm not confident in Matt Jones.

So my answer is no changes.

Everyone bar TMac.

Jamar needs support in the ruck. I think we may have to roll the dice with Spencil.

Don't think we can play Jamar & Spencil in the same team, if we were to go with two rucks think we'd need to go with Gawn.

But as long as there's no injuries or suspensions I'd make no changes. Give them a chance to atone.

41 touches between Jones, Tyson & Vince wont happen again!

I'm going to the Adelaide game next week..................

A few have suggested we went too tall this week and I tend to agree. I'm thinking either Frost comes out, or goes back for Howe. JKH comes back in and we try to get some more speed around the ball. If Frost goes out then Dawes plays 2nd ruck.

The problem is that most of our worst players on the day are clear best 22 players and most of the fringers were okay. So despite the insipid second half, I don't think there will be that many changes. I'll be really bummed if the likes of Frost, Vanders or Brayshaw bear the consequences for the abominable performance of our leading players.

Good to hear that Grimes, Toumpas and Michie put their cases forward emphatically.

Really think that was the worst game I've seen from Jones, amazing really. Jamar got smashed but I don't think Spencer would've made a difference, Mumford is awesome. Think we just needed to be smarter in reading the stoppage, when it was getting clear that Mummy was getting on top we need to change our tactics.

Thought Brayshaw was good when he came on, but I don't think its outside the realms of possibility that Vanders and Frost come under threat. Don't think Frost added anything today.

Someone must be dropped after that 2nd half. It's looking like Howe came up underdone after last week & Vince/Dawes had plenty of rust still today. But they will all again be better for the run, so dropping them now would seem pointless when their 'usual' proven past form would say they are top 22 player.

Garland was great last week, very ordinary today. Vanders needs to dominate at Casey for a couple in my opinion, as good as he was last week, I think Brayshaw showed better signs than him in limited minutes today. Kent was ordinary today. So Toumpas, JKH & Grimes could easily all come in here to give us a bit of a different mix. We need to see this 'competition for spots' stuff in action, especially when the team stops in the 2nd half like today.

One thing that Toumpas seems to have done so far this year is tackle, or at least put pressure on the ball. That alone needs to put him in the mix, his endurance is also excellent and he's picking up his speed. Aside from all of that, we could've done with some of his enthusiasm today.

This could easily change with my mood:

Out: Howe, Frost

In: Grimes, JKH

Dawes is limited, but he did keep presenting today. Certainly more than Frost. He's going to need to carry some load in the ruck.

I like the idea of Toumpas, but for who. First thought is Vanders, but with Frost out you need him as a marking target up forward.

Brayshaw to start, we missed his tackling today. Not sure who starts in the vest, Kent maybe.

What would have Grimes added today.....

I appreciate the whole Dawes is another big body, takes the heat of Hogan blah blah blah, any chance of taking a mark.

So a player/players have a quiet game and suddenly we need to rush Grimes back into the side, why arent these players awarded years of free games? We only had 4 on the injury list heading into today's game. The team that run out today is the best team we can field this year(JKH the only exception) so for mine no change unless someone doesn't pull up.

And Song, you were right to be worried at half time.

Roos believes in redemption - don't think there will be wholesale changes but good to see the Toump, Michie and Grimes in form putting pressure on.

Dare I say it but it is hard to fault McKenzies form and Spencil has a good few weeks.

There are enough options now to really turn up the heat.

Agree re JKH but Michie has been banging on the door for sometime. No worse than many today. Gawn and Spencil have 100 times more grunt than Jamar.

Hardly rushing him back. Played two in VFL, was apparently good last week and collected over 30 touches today creating off half back. Howe played like a schoolboy. No brainer for me.

Out: Frost

In: JHK

Frost and Dawes are playing the same role and Frost isn't a threat up forward.

JHK makes good decisions and would like to see the JHK, Garlett and Kent combo.

Dawes may have to suck it up and be 2nd ruck if he wants to play seniors.

I'd be more inclined to make a few more changes. Disgraceful effort can not go unpunished.

Outs:

Howe - no impact on game

Jetta - no impact on game

Frost - no impact on game

Cross - terrible with disposal, straight to player about to be tackled

Potential - Dawes - useless

In:

Grimes

Toumpas

Michie

JKH

Potential - [Pedersen], Fitzpatrick, Pencil

Edit: forgot JKH

Yes but let's keep in mind it's the VFL, we've all seen what happens when the pressure is on. Has he suddenly overcome all his deficiencies in two weeks? If Howe is to come out put JKH in and do some shuffling. Some players might have had a bad second half but at least they can use the footy. Grimes is not the answer, he's had his chance.

I was actually surprised he didn't make the grade for round 1, thought he was one of our better players through NAB cup - I know I wasn't the only one who thought the same.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
