Scarves binned - not a good look

LH, not a practical joke unfortunately. The "keep frozen" box looks like it is just a flattened box amongst the rest of the rubbish. The scarfs were 2014 member scarfs so aren't current. Had it confirmed it was at the MCG.

I can see a box that says 2014 but the only 2 scarves that are visible do not. Nor do those 2 scarves say 'Member'. Every 'Member' scarf I have ever had has this and the year on it. So can't see how it can be concluded that they are 2014 'Member' scarves.

Also, the brochure is a leaflet conveniently positioned between boxes. Look at the 1st and 3rd pic closely. In the 1st the scarves are well below the rim on the right side of the dumpster. On the 3rd they are overflowing. Sorry, the pics just don't add up.

Not doubting you or your mate but I shall remain the 'doubting Thomas' on this one and refrain from blaming the club.

Please remove your tinfoil hat. They are clearly membership scarves from last year. The design is exactly the same. The words "MEMBER 2014" and the MFC logo appear at different ends of the scarf, which is why you can't see the text - the scarves are folded up.

Has anyone actually contacted the club about this?

Whats the point?

Its probbaly the same person that didn't properly notify supporters of the training time change a couple of weeks ago

MFC staff never learn

The point is that the club needs to be aware that the supporters/members are watching their performance in all areas closely. They could have used what looks like approx 1,000 scarves as a good public relations exercise (winter is coming and there are plenty of homeless who would appreciate even the smallest of gestures).

The point is that if they hear of such failures often enough and from enough members, they will start to realise certain areas of the administration of the club must improve.

Do something and things might change, do nothing and nothing will change.

Anyway, I will tweet and Facebook, and if I get no response I will call them.

No need to be insulting Seraph. And, the 'please' doesn't detract from the insult.

People around here are too quick to jump to conclusions sometimes.

I just phoned the club (and tweeted) expressing my disappointment. They assured me that my feedback will be passed on and that it will be looked into. The cynics might say that that is as far as it will get, and they may be right if I'm the only one to contact them...so, I suggest that if you feel strongly enough about the fact that this is not a good look for the club, please do the same.

Yes and i 100% agree they need to be contacted and be told its nowhere near good enough

When I said 'white the point,' i just said it to make my point. There absolutely is a point to making them accountable. Now ive confused myself

I can guarantee you this.

I am a teacher at an East Bentleigh school of 600 kids. A lot of kids come into prep having no allegiance to any AFL team. If the grade 6 teacher could flick a heap of them free MFC scarves then I reckon we'd pick up a few supporters out of it.

It's a bloody waste!

I just spoke with Georgina at the club and fired off the below email to her. Here's hoping for a positive response.

Hi Georgina,

My name is........ I'm a long time member and player sponsor of the MFC. I'm also a teacher at .......... Primary School in East Bentleigh, a school of over 600 students.

I was wondering whether you had any merchandise (E.g. old scarves) that you could donate to our school so that I could use them as gifts for students in order to convert them into MFC supporters? A lot of the students come into prep and have no particular allegiance to any AFL side. What an opportunity to hand them a red and blue scarf and get them following the Dees!

Let me know what you think.

Kind regards,

What was wrong with them? We raised over $500 for the Mt Theo youth program in Yuendumu from the sale of those t-shirts.

Nothing at all CB - was just pointing out that they were ultimately consigned to the 'memorabilia with a limited shelf-life' category.

I had forgotten that the proceeds went to a good cause.

I've still got mine by the way.

Sorry to disagree with most of you but surely this is a mountain out of a mole hill.

A small aside I have the last umpteen scarves hanging in a wardrobe.

my wife calls it the "closet of despair"

I get a laugh out of it every time she says it

It is and it isn't OD... I suppose with their not so glorious off-field performances (such as this) lately, all of those molehills are accumulating and they may soon have a mountain. The other thing is that approx 1,000 scarves is not trivial if they could be used to assist the homeless and needy in some way.

Most would not want to lower themselves any lower hardtack.

Sorry poor joke but I cannot help myself.

Well, there is another way to look at it... by wearing the scarves, they could feel good about themselves knowing they have been able to help someone worse off than themselves.

Respectfully TK I don't think there's any need to be tricky. Just come out and say it.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
