Just found out that it was 1 year today that Dean Bailey passed away. He had his faults but i was one of a few that had alot of respect for the man.

His son posted a photo on instagram of him in his last days looking very frail and sick and made me sad.

Thoughts go out to his family.

Was a underrated coach in my opinion. The big losses we endured overshadowed the big wins we had at the G. The win against Sydney in 2010 is certainly a highlight. Thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I agree. I remember him after a draft saying something like "these are the players the club tells me I need", I think he got caught up in the failings from other areas.

I only ever spoke to him once and it was a short conversation but he had a real aura about himself and I summed him up as a truly quality guy.

RIP Dean.

I maintain that if the MFC was anywhere near functional as a business ad sporting entity, he would have been a very good coach. But coaching under Jimmy, Schwab, Connolly and "the benefits of losing" absolutely stuffed any coaching ability and aspirations he might have had.

We were worth watching under Bailey. Young and inconsistent but still playing exciting footy and winning some games,And we

And werent we only 1 game out of the eight when '186' happened?

Bailey was a damn good coach who unfortunately had a bunch of cry babies for senior players ie. Moloney Sylvia, Rivers

A good man Dean Bailey. I was sad and angry at how he was treated by certain people a few years ago

He deserved better.

I am glad he is remembered with respect

Good man.

I remember when I was at Etihad Stadium watching the U/18 championships.

My mate who was a recruiter with Port Adelaide text Dean commenting on Nic Nat.

That the best development coach could turn him into a champion.

His comment back was " And bears can [censored] in the woods"

I have no idea what meaning this was meant to convey. Presumably a result of having been a player (and assistant coach?) under the master of the deliberately inane, Kevin Sheedy.

It was stating the bleeding obvious at he time.

He started coaching melbourne that preseason.

Yes the best development coach would turn a raw talent into a champion.

And bears Shite in the woods is pretty normal. As is dogs smell other dogs bums.

No nothing to do with your comment different club, different circumstance.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
