Jack Trengove strange recovery program

Trengove finished !! A physio mate of mine reckons that if he gets back it would be a comeback of enormous proportions.

The fact of the matter is he was all set for Tigerland, he knows it, the Clubs knew it and now that it is all said. He has an existing contract for the rest of the year.

Ok.. as a Melbourne player by all means extend any means available in his recovery. But unless a minor miracle occurs I think it is all over!

The Real question is can we downgrade him to the Rookie list ( with his blessing) which would entail still paying him his contract payments, to create another spot on the list?

This would be "prudent" list management and would be the way I would go!

If he recovers? Its not that uncommon. James Hird had the same injury, did not bother him once healed. Viv Michie did his twice at the Dockers. Apparently its a result of over working and stress on the bone. He sat on a gym bench and bulked up. Fun fact the Roman Soldiers were very prone to this injury. Once their weapons and gear was reduced to 60 ponds the problem disappeared. Even today the military restrict soldiers packs and equipment to 60lbs. I forget the guys name but a player at Geelong never played again.

I enjoy reading some of pickets posts, it reminds me of a boss I once had and his motivational speeches, "son, you haven't lived another day, you are simply another day closer to the inevitable end".

Hahaha That is a total pisser!!!

Real Footy reports Jack Trengove as saying ""It's going to be a lot of boring time ahead for me, sitting on the coach especially in the next month or so.

"But it's all a part of it."

Perhaps we can await for their next report that Paul Roos has been smothered by our ex captain.

Meanwhile they have advised Eddie Mcguire to "Let it go" Good advise to Eddie in any circumstances. I am not sure what "it" is but can hazard a guess.

I deeply regret to advise that any suggestion of Eddie-bashing should be verbotten on Demonland for the foreseeable future . Looking at our draw , the ONLY home game capable of earning serious moolah is Queen's Birthday - weather permitting of course . To his credit , he actively , albeit condescendingly , supports our sole blockbuster . I'm sure the Toiges for example would love to pinch it off us .

May have restricted the blood flow to his brain, though ... :):)

I am quite certain he will recover but the big question is; Will he recover enough to be able to play football at the highest level again after suffering such a compilcated injury? And add the extended layoff and need to get match fitness back. His recent breakdown after supposedly promissing progress up to it suggests to me there may be a chronic fragility to his foot. If he does recover fully we may be looking at another two seasons before he regains optimal form. The odds are not good IMO.

I reckon he will be back.

If he can still kick and run he will be fine.

Relax aye!

Then there was Geelong player Jason Snell who promptly retired after such a severe ankle break against us he was told he could never run again .

So was Admire Rakti but that never stopped it winning the Caulfield Cup.

ADC, no one wants to hear such logic or sense. This is exactly what some of us have been saying all along. Its not whether he can recover and heal per se but can his foot stand the rigours of extreme load and effort....and not just once...but a continued session, a-la a game of AFL footy...in fact any footy..i.e training etc.

I seriously hope the guy gets his health and fitness back. I also seriously doubt hell ever play a game of football ( AFL ) again. If so marvellous. I wont be expecting nor counting on it.

This is an after hours call too.

I will also preface it by saying I am not an orthopedic specialist let alone a super Specialised ( foot orthopod)

His injury is one suffered by a number of footballers .

It's recurrent nature is clearly a concern.

Even the course of treatment attracted a few options including no surgery and using stem cells ,or prp which injects his own serum in the area to promote healing.

While medicine tries to be an exact science ,my favo corny saying to patients is doctors never say always and never say never.

He clearly has a risk that he may have recurrence and not return but there is also a chance like several notable players eg james hired that he will make it

No medical, specialist is going to more definitive

Do you bulk bill?

Thanks Doctor.

Agree with the bolded statement. I dont know why posters are making definitive opinions about JTs future when its so uncertain.

Definitely a case of we will have to see what happens.......

Good luck to the kid......he deserves it in spades.

Are you perhaps familiar with a particular saying about Ducks ?

I stand to be corrected but most players who have suffered this injury and had a successful return to top flight footy had a relatively trouble free recovery period I believe. A little different with Tengove. Played far too long with a mysterious injury before first diagnosis and treatment and then had a repeat breakdown when he should have been right again. Now he has to undergo a second long recovery period.

Tragically, it seems Jack is in some strife re his football career. In his press conf last week Roos talked about '...their first priority is getting Jack to a point where he can lead a normal life...' I think he elaborated and talked about being able to walk, run etc., all the while Roos' expression seemed negative. I didn't get any sense that once Jack can lead a 'normal life' with his foot that he could get back to footy. There wasn't any of the vague, hopeful ...we expect him to make a full recovery and... type of comment from Roos.

Truly, hope my reading of the press conf is wrong...

Sadly I think your reading of it correct I had the same feeling.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
