So ...

You don't need to be Einstein to realise that Roos and his crew have an ace up their sleeve in regarding to the recent discussion about trading Jack Trengove.

It is clear that they will be looking to on trade one or two of picks 12, 3, or 2 should this trade eventuate, given that Roos has said he doesn't want too many kids and is in need of midfield talent.

I believe they have someone already sorted. Yes, trading JT for a kid goes against what he has said in recent discussions.

So who is that player that they have targeted? Who is that Bernie Vince/Dom Tyson type import? I don't know but if I was a betting man I'd be putting money on the following:

1. D. Sheil (GWS) - trade ignited by GWS wanting to get back into the draft after losing picks for Griffen;

2. R. Sloane (AFC) - following heavy discussions with Adelaide over Danger, AFS may have offered Sloan instead knowing he is a risk to go next year as well;

3. T.Walker (AFC) - following heavy discussions with Adelaide over Danger, AFC may have offered Walker instead knowing he is a risk to go next year as well.

4. T. Mitchell (SFC) - Roos relationship.

5. Solid 2nd tier player from Port. Port may be looking for pick 12 to get Ryder.

If I was to pick one, its Sloane.

Thoughts? Anyone else on the horizon?

Cheers,

Craig

I would take any of them for the right price, even pay a little overs.

Who would you being putting your money on if you were to take an educated gamble?

(I have a gut feeling on another Adelaide play not Danger)

P.S This place is a nut house. I have already been called chilliboy.

Welcome, Craig. Love the avatar. Is that Steve? ;)

I think we're working on a number of angles. It sounds like we're fishing with Dangerfield and Beams. I'd say we've also spoken to GWS, who are more likely to give up one of their young stars, because they have so many of these kids, many of them Victorian and are/will be looking to get back home soon. If we offer large contracts at the player and a high pick at GWS, they may well say it's better than they'd get in a year or two when some of these guys leave for nothing. I think we're in a similarly strong position for Dangerfield. Adelaide know we can offer them the best compensation. I think they'll offer him up for trade if he doesn't commit to them. That doesn't mean he'll come to us, because he's still got to agree to the trade, but I can't imagine he'll stay at Adelaide once he's a FA.

But the hidden trade target is obviously...hidden. That's why this trade week is so fascinating. There are rarely leaks from the MFC anymore, so deals are done and then we find out who we were after and not before.

I thought it was going to be Coniglio that was the hidden target!

If u don't like the name chilliboy how about KABANABOY????

IMO none of the above will come off maybe not through lack of trying though.

TBH I have not idea who we are targeting cause since the new admin and coaches took over the place is tighter than a .........

I think we'll keep the draft picks and take them into the draft.

We'll ask the question in regards to Beams and throw up 3, 12, but I think Beams legitimately wants to move home.

It isn't Dangerfield, neither Adelaide or Dangerfield want any part in a trade - not that Demonland pays much notice of that.

Shiel wouldn't command 3 and 12. Treloar would - but I don't expect he'll want out.

I think Treloar would be our most likely target.

But I don't think we'll land him, and I think we'll take our picks to the draft.

One thing for sure, I would not give up pick 2. Pick 2 would be out of bounds, they can run away with pick 3 all they like.

If McCartin is going at 1 and Petracca at 2 why would it matter as we want Brayshaw at 3?

I feel it is very unlikely we'll get Shiel or Mitchell. GWS wouldn't see Petracca as > Shiel - Shiel is a performing gun that they can build a team around. Mitchell would be difficult to pry away from Sydney - all I hear is they rate him very highly and he is a big party of their future.

Sloan I feel unlikely but not out of the realms of possibility if they're into Trenners.

Tex I'm not sure on.

For mine I think it's more likely we'll pick up Toby Greene with 12 if we trade Trenners to Richmond.

Dream world would be 2,3, 12 and 23 (no way I give up Trenners and 23 for 12) for a disillusioned Tex, Sloane and Danger. ( I can dream :P )

My hidden trade guess is Picks 3 & 10/12 (in essence Trengove & Pick 23) for Coniglio, Greene & Frost. Win/win...... Saints take McCartin 1 (big mistake imo), us Brayshaw Pick 2, Petracca Pick 3 to GWS and they get back into the draft after trading & paying a very heavy price Griffen.

I base this on absolutely nothing btw.

And fwiw, I rate this years draft as particularly weak, the talls all grossly overrated, Moore & Heeney clear top 5'ers who aren't available where they are worth & from his 1 minute highlights package as 17 yo Calder 3rd place b&f I reckon Lever looks like a bigger Hodge potentially, really like his potential.

I believe we are entertaining a MAJOR bid for Dangerfield.... Somewhere in the area of close to $1m a year over possibly 5 or 6... Hence the thought about trading out JT to the Toigs....

The other thing that people need to take into account when mentioning the big Texan (although by all reports he is the heart and soul of Cow Land) is that he is BFF's with our man Bernie Vince!

The Goodwin and Bernie combination cannot and SHOULD not be underestimated when speaking of luring Cows to Demonland!

True. Brown and Neeld were a vital part of luring Dawes across at the time. I can imagine us going hard after Tex next year. Get the midfielders we need this off season and come back for Tex in FA next year.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
