Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off

You might have thought that given he had been experiencing pain in the foot our club would have done a full range of scans, this is embarrassing for our medical team makes us look like dodgy used car salesmen or just negligent

Posted

Really. They didn't train him at all?

Interesting.

We must have known it was line ball in that case.

2013 was a nightmare. Politics kept Trenners playing...

Fools.

Thanks Doctor.

Emma Quayle in the Age today stated this:

"The Demons and Tigers had negotiated a trade for the former No. 2 draft pick, but were forced to abandon the plan after a secondary set of scans ordered by Richmond's medical team confirmed he had been re-injured.

Both clubs were genuinely shocked by what the scans revealed, as was Trengove's surgeon, given his encouraging recent progress."

I will await the D'land medical experts to conjure further facts to support their touted myths.

We had, a few. Weeks ago all looked good at that stage.

So Josh Mahoney has given JT an open ended committment for his future. (Sun herald) He wont play in 2015 and therefore on what basis will he be offered a new contract

Pfft, what would Quayle, two club doctors or a surgeon know? WYL said it was because the MFC played him too much two years ago and Ruchmond flogged him too hard on the track, so that must be what it is.

Depends how much you believe the statements coming out of clubs during trade week OR whether you take any notice of the Herald Scum...

I think we all knew Jack wasn't right in 2013..but he kept playing....

these the same surgeons that expressed "surprise" at his scans ??

Sigh... Clark 2.0?

I'd like to say Trenners wouldn't do to the club what Clark did, were he also offered a rookie spot and a small contract to continue playing with us beyond 2015.

Actually it was "shock" and not "surprise".

How do you know that MC was offered a rookie spot and small contract, were you there, or are you friends with MC or Roos, or did you hear it from someone they told?

So curious about what responsibility Dave Misson takes for these feet issues? M Clark x 2. Trengove x 3, Garland, Grimes, Jamar to name a few have all had issues in recent years. No coincidence surely?

hmmm...

and they game they play is FOOTball - and they run kilometres ever week on their FEET.... coincidence ? hmmmm

Just as a matter of interest Bob, what's the difference between:-

(a) keeping an injured player on your senior list and then putting him on your long term injury list and

(b) delisting the player and picking him up as a rookie?

Would there be advantages either way for a club or a player eg room in salary cap etc. (I assume the player gets paid either way).

It's a while since I've been involved Jack so I'm not sure but keeping an injured player on the senior list but putting him on the LTIL used to mean that any promoted rookie and his match and benchmark payments were not included in TPP calculations. (Rookies were outside the TPP and could be paid in excess of base rates). Given our list I'm pretty confident TPP is not an issue.

There is no way of just putting Trenners on the rookie list AFAIK. My understanding is he must be delisted and then redrafted in the rookie draft and this clearly leaves open the possibility that another club might pick him before us in either the ND or rookie draft. I'm not sure if his contract needs to be paid out in these circumstances but I'd imagine the financial arrangements would be that he'd be paid the same but the salary would be within the TPP.

As far as advantages go if he goes onto the rookie list it means we get an earlier pick as we'd have a spot on the senior list rather than the rookie list. I'm betting that he'll stay on the senior list for next year but on the LTIL.

Seems the obvious way to go. We're already upgrading Jetta and Georgiou is ready in case of a defender going LTI, so the other rookies will know that good form at Casey can lead to an upgrade at any time. If Jack is clear at the end of the year he can get a contract extension, either a year or longer with an availability clause.

The differences between delisting a player and then rookie-ing them, and putting them on the LTI can only be considered semantics from a rule perspective.

In terms of the individual in question - it is essentially being fired, by a club that had tried to trade you a few days earlier.

There is just a massive difference between the two, WJ.

Hope that they do at least two scans before offerring him another contract! And Maybe use another doctor?

don'r see what is wrong putting him on the rookie list

he could still be paid what he would otherwise earn under his contract and not getting full match payments

he's not going to play in 2015

means we can pick a higher rated player in the nd than a lower one in the rooke draft

why wouldn't we?

'Puitting him on the rookie list' involves delisting him, leaving him to all comers in the ND and then getting him through to the Rookie Draft and placed on there.

It's not as simple as cutting and pasting on Mahoney 'List File' in Excel...

And it comes with the chance that blokes won't like it when they see their peer delisted with a promise.

well it's amlost a zero possibility another club would take on a player who won't play in 2015 with a potentially career ending injury

as for the second point it all depends how it's handled. peers already know he was on the cusp of being traded

Would be amazed if he plays another afl game for us, bone has broken up around the screws.

Where has this been reported, Cards?

It hasn't but that's my mail...

So again Mahoney stated that he would be extended contractually post 2015. On what basis if he cant play??

Has been reported in the age today but I was able to view something. I will be amazed if he ever plays footy again let alone AFL. Multiple breaks around both screws.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
