Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Early in the year, there was some talk about us going after Jeremy Cameron. Is this still in the pipeline, or have I missed something?

Patton went down, so any chance of the Giants releasing him would've fallen apart.

Not to mention they finished 2 wins clear of our rabble.

Why all the Dangerfield speculation? If I were the Crows he would be just about the last I would let go. Have I missed something? If Frawley goes an on going problem will be exacerbated. WE NEED A GORILLA MINDER. McDonald is a trier but not A class. All this talk of defense but this is an area of true need of bolstering.

Frost and Lamumba will beef up our defense.

The team did pretty well defensively with Frawley as a forward most of the year.

Jetta became one of the best small defenders in town with one season under Roos. Let's see what he can do with Frost.

Key draft and free agency dates

Friday October 3 - NAB AFL restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period begins

Friday October 3, by 2pm - NAB AFL father/son bidding nominations; Academy bidding nominations lodged with AFL

Monday October 6, 10am - Father/son and Academy players bidding meeting; NAB AFL Trade Period begins

Monday October 13, at 5pm - Close of NAB AFL restricted free Agency offer and unrestricted free agency period

Thursday October 16 - NAB AFL restricted free agency matching offer three-day period ends

Friday October 17, at 2pm - NAB AFL Trade Period closes

Does anyone know when compensation picks are given? I'm concerned that we will have to wait until the 16th of October which only leave us with one day of trading presuming that's our intention for it.

This doesn't inspire me with confidence: AFL set to review free agency rules including the scrapping of compensation picks

The earliest compensation will be announced is Tuesday October 14. If we haven't traded pick 2 for anything in the first week, it would be a strong indication the pick 2 & 3 deal is true (and we're forced to wait for compensation to be revealed to announce the trade). But yes, it makes me fairly nervous as well. I'm assuming they'd agree to terms and then wait for the outcome.

This is probably why the club has gone to the AFL asking what compensation we'd receive in scenarios x, y and z. Roos has indicated he's expecting pick 3, and the PP announcement today pretty much confirmed to me that's coming. From the AFL's perspective, when they're under so much pressure to scrap FA compo altogether (which would be a disaster for us), if we landed a PP and pick 3 for Frawley (after last year's Buddy compo fiasco) the [censored] from other clubs would almost definitely see it scrapped for 2015.

Because if they wait another year, he can leave under FA and they risk receiving less (or no) compensation. His "go home" factor seems fairly strong.

Also, they've taken a hammering with the loss of draft picks for 2012 and 2013, so there's a bit of a "lost generation" there, which they could help fill with another high pick, plus perhaps someone decent from the years they missed out (e.g. Toumpas).

As an aside, I'd be disappointed to see Jimmy T leave - still early days for him, and he didn't go pick 4 for nothing. But ...

How many "gorillas" are there in the game today?

Who exactly is the swans' "gorilla tamer"? Richards or Grundy?

Look at the mixed messages the Saints are sending out in relation to their number 1 pick.

" Pelchen said if the Saints kept the top selection they would be taking the best available player.

"We certainly never ignore our positional needs," he said.

"We've developed a very deliberate strategic plan between 2013 and 2016 to address our player list and its needs.

"We're certainly not going to ignore positional types, but this particular season, we'll be looking at the best player available and become more specific next year and the year following."

Yes Saints, that makes lots of sense. Give yourselves a year less for your Riewoldt successor to work under Riewoldt. Take best available this year then be strategic next year instead of taking best available.

Um, what?

Key forwards don't grow on trees and they take years to develop. You're shooting yourselves in the foot if you pass on the cream of this year's crop of talls for a speculative but promising midfielder. The draft has shown year after year that quality midfielders go deep.

I may cope some flack by asking this however Schoenmakers may be on the outers by Hawthorn. Played 79 games and averaged 14 disposals this year. I can see him as a Roos type player, aka Teddy Richards. Just a thought and may only require a 3rd rounder

He was shocking in the VFL Final.

I think what Pelchen is doing here is tying to make other teams think they could take anyone in the draft so that other teams don't assume too much....... You cannot seriously think any quotes at this stage is anything more than posturing, why reveal your hand now? And if gws is really really hot for Petracca you never know, maybe Cameron could be Riewoldt successor rather than McCartin. I know which I'd prefer.

True but I can remember Bomber supporters constantly bagging Richards and labelling him a spud back in the day when he was with them.

Roos sure changed that.

He is, he was and they did.

He may be just the type of player Roos can work with.

This would be ironic.

I had heard we had Shoenmakers pencilled in at pick 17 in 2008, only for Hawthorn to take him at pick 16. We then picked up Blease at pick 17, who was thought likely to have been picked up by the Saints at pick 13. Bit of an impromptu selection.

Instead, we should've simply picked our next choice after Shoenmakers at pick 17 - Luke Shuey. But we didn't. Shuey was then picked up by the Eagles at pick 18. The rest is history.

We have made so many mistakes. Rookie mistakes.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
