Exactly. If we give up on the draft because of past failings we must throw in the towel now. Look at Richmond and Port- they were rubbish and although it could be argued the tigs still are, they did some good recruiting after some horrible results and they are a better team than we are currently.

What if Port gave up on the draft and didn't get Wingard or Wines or Grey etc

Who's 'given up' on the draft? How silly.

Some people, myself included, do not hold the view that stocking up on draft picks and drafting tonnes of new kids is the right way to win our next flag. That was the view that most of us held in 2007-2009. It doesn't work.

But that of course doesn't mean we just stop using the draft.

The AFL website suggests that North are holding out on trading Levi Greenwood to the Pies because they want a lower Round 2 pick than the Pies can offer (30). We have 23 and there is only one pick lower than ours. Thoughts?

p.s. Hopefully we get a replacement Round 2 pick from the Cattery in the reputed three Club trade involving Mitch, Varcoe and HL!

Good to see teams not just letting go of their players for unders because they've "nominated" a preferred club, even if they don't have the currency to offer a fair trade. Except GWS, who stupidly accepted steak knives for O'Rourke.

Wish we'd done the same for Clark.

Giving up Varcoe is giving up peanuts for Geelong, when they're getting a freaking near-AA forward in Clark. I'll be much happier if we get pick 33 + Lamumba from the deal.

Otherwise they're getting away with murder.

I've not seen anywhere that we've accepted Geelong's offer. I doubt it's going to be the 3 way trade many have been talking about. More likely to at least be the pick 21 they are getting from Brisbane.

A week ago everyone was throwing around trades like pick 3 + Trenners for Dangerfield as the best deal in town.

Now it's sacrilege?

I don't think people are saying that at all, everyone has a price, he has been very loyal to us in darkest of times, IMO the feeling others could have gone in this trade possibly, but I understand it is Richmond who made the first move.

I will not like Trengove to the Tigers for Pick 12, but if we get an A-Grader in a package trade for that deal I can deal with it. But 23 and Trenners for Pick 12 I think is the issue

In reality Trenners has been a bit of a spare richard for a few years now. No guarantee he has come back from his latest op so its time to trade.

27&28 trade in th last two trade periods. I'm guessing next week will be a busy week.

Let's hope Dangerfield & Beams comes our way.. Or if that doesn't eventuate then I'd be happy with Petracca & Brayshaw.

GWS will still be wanting early picks so they guarantee Petracca so they need to deal with us or StKilda or both. For stKilda to give up pick one they need to give them a big forward like the one they are likely to miss if they trade down to pick 4. So probably easier for GWS to trade with us as they can also cover Frost in the same deal.

Re the Clarke deal we should do this with Geelong by ourselves get a draft pick and be done with it, then collingwood can chase us to do the swap for HL, if they dont we hopefully have another good draft pick and collingwood have to continue to paying HL

As Pies can't sign Varcoe until Beams goes, because of salary cap, they clearly need to get rid of HL quickly.

That should give us some leverage.

I think it will be the Christiansen pick.

Given there was an article that said we had to wait for a 3 day turnaround for Buckley to fly there and back, I'm inclined to agree with your sentiment.

and there are no guarantees he hasn't, he will give everything he has for the club and that is a valuable commodity in my book whilst I accept he has currency and it is a ruthless business there are other players on our list I would have in the queue out the door before Jack

I fully agree with you however the reality is that there are few on our list that would similarly command pick 12 that we would wish to get rid of (e.g. N. Jones, Tyson, etc)!

In no universe do I give up Nathan Jones or Dom Tyson for pick 12.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
