Just been delisted by Brisbane, not a bad player, 94 games.

I'd give him a rookie spot.

Can we have a thread for all delisted players rather than an individual thread for each one.

No way, Patrick Wearden deserves his own thread.

Jordan lisle wouldn't be a bad rookie pick

I thought Polkinghorne looked the goods a few years ago (remember, Goodvibes? ;)) - decent sized mid who likes a goal. Would love to know what went wrong here - 11 games in '13 and 2 in '14. Injuries?

Anyway, he's the only one of those delisted Lions I'd do anything more than raise an eyebrow at.

Polkinghorne doesnt get enough of it as a midfielder and lacks the athleticism or X-factor to be a forward of any great value. He tries hard and is OK but If he had any currency, Brisbane would attempt to trade him. We're in trouble if the people in charge of the club have him on the radar. Lisle was atrocious this year for Brisbane and not good enough to be listed anywhere. One of his games this year was one of the worst I have seen from an AFL player.

Vossy loved him. Strong over the ball, plenty of courage, clean hands but the doubt was always going to be about his size and speed combination. For someone of his size he really did lack a yard and injuries didn't help. He's the kind of player Roos might quite like. I'd take him over any of the other delisted players mentioned over the past two days but he's not going to make the difference and I'd rather take a chance on an untried draftee.

What is the value of putting someone on the rookie list, as it restricts when they can play for you, need to keep rookie list free for players you want to develop not players you may want to play straight away.

I agree. A player with Polkinghorne's experience is either going to make your best 22 better or he won't. If you think he will you pull the trigger and put him straight onto the main list. A club in our position isn't looking for role players in the hope we can move up a couple of spots. It should be looking for players we think are capable of becoming stars of the competition. We need the cake. The icing and the decorations and the leftover crumbs can come in a couple of years. Every spot on the senior list is vitally important. Every spot must be used to find us 'A' grade players.

That's the theory, but why do we have Jayden Hunt and (to a lesser extent) Dom Barry on the senior list?

Yep he'd fit in to Melbourne's lineup quite well: sprays a lot of kicks and goes missing when the team does.

Seems like Melbourne material!

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's probably a pass then.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
