Tom McDonald?

Legitimate question though: when he's been "brilliant", where has he been playing? Forward or back?

IMO, most of his good games this year were in the forward line.

Forward, no doubt about it. Even with his stupid play on at the end (what the actual F--- was he thinking???) he looks a lot better forward. He's a very strong mark, and his set shot accuracy is surprisingly good (again why didn't he go back????).

For me in defence he doesn't look confident anymore. His field kicking can be absolutely diabolical, and at least if he has brain farts in the forward line it doesn't cost us as dearly.

What that means though is we are short a proper FB, and are suddenly over stocked up forward.

He had an absolute mare, but that comes at the tail end of a fantastic season.

Must swing forward (fingers crossed) for finals if Hogan is to miss.

Playing the footy of his life as a forward, and was moved back.

Stupid.

I'm so over his brain fades

I was right in 2014 and I'm right now. He won't stand up to the pressure of finals intensity (or anything close to it).

Might be worth keeping around as forward/ruck to compete or back up Pedda and is probably the 2nd best ruck option on the list if Max gets injured.

But he's done as a key defender. He's done as a leader too.

He is done!  will always let you down in key games with his perenenial "Brain Fades" We will never win finals or matches that count with him in Key Defensive positions.

Trade out please!

I know people are emotional after that...but jeez theres some garbage being written tonight.

Look he had a shocking shocking game today. It seemed like the Tom of old. That kick out where Cox marked it was horrible. Tom should never take the kick outs.

also his kicking for goal has been great lately. He should have gone back and had a shot for goal, instead he tried to pass, butchered it and turned it over.

Should've bumped thread when he kicked a last gasp goal to give us the win against the Eagles at Subiaco.

He had a shitofa game much like the rest of the team but I'll agree that come finals he'd be a risky proposition down back based off today's effort.

The lack pressure TMac gave to allow Elliot to goal wasn't good enough at all.

Yep send him forward forever.
Now getting Lever and further strengthening tall backs are a must.

Whats appauling about the truth. He is costing us being in the backline.Move him forward and keep him there.

Nothing wrong with asking the hard truths. Fact is we needed to stand up on a massive occasion and couldn't. Who/what the problem is should be asked.

Why do we go missing for a qrt? Why can we never kick away for a big win?

Valid questions to ask ourselves.

im so sick of personally being condemned for my opinions of mcdonald. i've never liked him as a player. Sure he can take a mark and has good endurance but the moment he has the ball and his eyes dart 1 degree in board you may as well pencil in a goal. Oscar is the same

Got taught a football lesson last week by Hipwood. Insipid again today. If you're picking between two blokes with vafa-level disposal, you'd be better keeping the one that turns it over after plenty of run and carry (Frost). Cash in on McDonald who holds the club to ransom with his 2 year contracts.

Really? A football lesson? 10 possession and 1 goal?

He had a shocking day, but no need to rewrite history.

Trade em all !

Alright hero, watch the tape of every contest T McDonald was in last week. Plenty were against Hipwood. McStay and Close and all the others beat him too. If you reckon that's an acceptable match for a 24 year old, leadership group, established, key position defender, that holds the club to ransom with his 2 year "you'd better improve" contracts, you've got rocks in your head.

Also for Tom he is a big strong bloke (Tarzan) but for the last three or so weeks he has played like Jane! He lets the opposition players just run past with only a token effort to stop them and I can't remember the last time he shepherded for a team mate. If we can get something for him trade him and his bother please.

Tom doesn't get the love he deserves.  He's a gun.

I've bumped this thread not to knock those that bagged him but to highlight how easy it is to judge players too quickly and how successful the move to the forward line has been.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
