Its the grand old flag, with Melbourne in it.

I am one who thinks we need a change.

Every game I go to and the song gets played, very few supporters sing along.

They just clap their hands to the beat.

We need a song that gets the supporters involved.

Something to awaken the emotions instead of a lullaby that puts you to sleep.

You mean something like "Rein Raus" by Rammstein, that awakens certain part of me

Saty, almost 20 years a grammar schoolboy, you should have tried harder.

Yes I know in that instance a majority is over 10 years. Maybe we could add "heave ho we are the Melbourne Demons!"

huh?

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot, keep your eye on the red and the blue"

It means that even though you may (that is, it is a acceptable to and you are permitted to) forget about your passing fancies, you should always keep your eye on Melbourne.

Basically, while you may have other acquaintances (for example you follow Melbourne storm in passing), don't ever forget about the team you love.

Edit: put it in full context add it is a slang saying of old.

"For even though you may forget acquaintances (people you meet or know in passing), always remember your true friends".

It derives from Auld Lang Syne by Robert Burns.

It differentiates acquaintances from friends. In this case the singer is proclaiming that "the red and the blue" is their true friend.

is this why I've had passing 2nd teams along the way since 1968 ? awaiting that 'D' Day ???

maybe some MCC & Northern Stand theme music, just the Tonic to warm the cockles of thy hearts, ah the good Ol' days. 'eres a fitting rendition Ol' boys

I'd much rather a song that talks symbolically about the supporters' devotion to the Red and the Blue, a symbol which has been associated with the club far longer than our monkier, than one which talks about how we can kick heaps of goals and we are the best at playing the game, as other team songs do (e.g. Collingwood, Brisbane, Geelong, etc.)...

why change the song? is it going to make you support ten any more? will the players be any better for it?

of course not

Its like changing the red to a blood red or the blue to a royal blue, who cares.

Its red and blue and thats the song.

Verse 1

There's a feeling comes a-stealing,

And it sets my brain a-reeling,

When I'm list'ning to the music of a military band.

Any tune like "Yankee Doodle"

Simply sets me off my noodle,

It's that patriotic something that no one can understand.

"Way down South, in the land of cotton,"

Melody untiring,

Ain't that inspiring?

Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll join the jubilee!

And that's going some, for the Yankees, by gum!

Red, White and Blue, I am for you!

Honest, you're a grand old flag!

Verse 2

I'm no cranky hanky panky,

I'm a dead square, honest Yankee,

And I'm mighty proud of that old flag that flies for Uncle Sam.

Though I don't believe in raving

Ev'ry time I see it waving,

There's a chill runs up my back that makes me glad I'm what I am.

Here's a land with a million soldiers,

That's if we should need 'em,

We'll fight for freedom!

Hurrah! Hurrah! For ev'ry Yankee Tar,

And old G.A.R., ev'ry stripe, ev'ry star.

Red, White and Blue, hats off to you!

Honest, you're a grand old flag!

Chorus

You're a grand old flag,

You're a high-flying flag,

And forever in peace may you wave.

You're the emblem of the land I love,

The home of the free and the brave.

Ev'ry heart beats true

'Neath the Red, White and Blue,

Where there's never a boast or brag.

But should auld acquaintance be forgot,

Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

No; but yes to new members for sure.

Yes, the words are the chant, the Affirmations: if we sing about grand old days passed, & some flag somewhere. its not focusing our desires. It's distracting them, & us.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Instead our singing about Our Clubs Goals, our desires, Our teammates & our Supporters, & the love for this club & its journey..... EG: >

Hawthorn Club Song

We're a happy team at Hawthorn

We're the Mighty Fighting Hawks.

We love our Club, and we play to win,

Riding the bumps with a grin (at Hawthorn).

Come what may, you'll find us striving

Team work is the thing that talks,

One for all and all for one

Is the way we play at Hawthorn.

We are the Mighty Fighting Hawks.

affirmations every-time this song is sung or hummed by someone, they get a positive message. & a good feeling.

Problem solved.

It’s Melbourne's grand old flag, it’s Melbourne's high flying flag,
It’s Melbourne's emblem for me and for you,
It’s Melbourne's emblem of the team we love,
The Melbourne team of the Red and the Blue.

Every Melbourne heart beats true, for Melbourne's Red and the Blue,

And we sing Melbourne's song to you,
Should Melbourne's old acquaintance be forgot,

Keep your Melbourne eye on the Red and the Blue.

Oh, the Melbourne team played fine in the year Thirty-nine,

We’re the Demons (i.e Melbourne) that no one can lick,
And you’ll find Melbourne there at the final bell,
With the Melbourne spirit of Twenty-six.

Every Melbourne heart beats true, for the Red and the Blue,

And we sing Melbourne's song to you,
Should Melbourne's old acquaintance be forgot,

Keep your Melbourne eye on the Red and the Blue.

And just to make sure, chant Melbourne 12 times whilst clapping at the end. And perhaps at the start as well.

Keep the song as it is as it the best theme song in the league by a country mile.

I remember singing it out loud as the MFC team ran out on to the field for a final at Subiaco Oval one year. The lady Dockers supporter in front of me tried to covered her ears so I sung even louder so she would not miss hearing such a great song. Its these little things which makes us MFC Supporters so great.

There was about 2,000 MFC supporters to 40,000 Dockers supporters at the game which just means we had to make more noise.

I suppose there would be some bizarre interest in hearing the grand old flag croaked out by a toilet dwelling Fl og.

Toady, do you sing GOF whilst having a dump on one of your 6 toilets?

"And we sing this song to poo..."

Wouldn't be surprised.

More "a unique and inviting rustic hamlet", unlike Beigewood.

I thought it was one of those dives you pass on the way to Macedon or Kyneton.

The last main attraction was the Drunken Village idiot that thought his pyjamas were mayoral robes.

What happened to that guy?

I really hope trade week can start in earnest so we can forget talking about such garbage! Leave the song alone!

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
