Roos has turned a few players around hasn't he?

Do those that think Grimes should be dropped ready for what he would be replaced by?

His footy smarts are up there, his execution of late looks confidence-less but he is most-definitely someone you persist with.

Realistically, who is pushing him at Casey? No one. He'll stay in this year and either way, Roos would probably persist with him anyway. I think he can be a great reader of the play, but he's got pretty much zero footy smarts with ball in hand. Some of that's confidence, some of that is simply Grimes. But he's got to get it out of his game and bloody quickly. Everyone else is making strides, but the bloke who is supposed to be leading.

I nearly broke my hand on the table when he turned it over, but all the work off the ball and his putting his body in harms way, and marshalling the defence compensates for the mistakes

Very poor game from Grimes today....he has always been overrated in my opinion

Great guy obviously, but that alone does not win footy at AFL level

I agree with you WYL...Grimesy is overated...

Apparently he is a great bloke & does have a go..but to me he should never have the pressure of captaincy & doesnt lead or play like a captain IMO. That alone should be with Jonesy who leads & plays as a captain should!

I see Grimesy's blunders every week...it frustrates me greatly.

He is still a good defender but no better than good & makes way to many mistakes for a guy with so many games under his belt..

Grimes brings a hard edge and defensive smarts to a backline that is overworked and under appreciated by most outside of this board.

And can we just stop the insinuations that the 'best' player has to be the leader? Leadership comes from, and out in, the work you don't see so readily every week when you are watching the footy go back and forth.

Our defence this season is lauded but Dunn, McDonald, and Howe seem to be where the reasons for this stop. Jetta beats his bloke for a month and his close to being included, but because Terlich and Grimes turn it over they are not included in the kudos?

It's my experience that your backline is only as good as your weakest link and that all 6 (or 7) have to be performing as a well drilled unit.

It's hard not to be when you're watching on the telly.

I hate interstate games, because you see so much less of what is really going on.

It shouldn't really be any surprise that the journos get away with writing what they do, when we see everything through their eyes, the things they want to show us, unless we go to the matches ourselves.

No that was outstanding, and deserves to be lauded, but the defenders of Grimes (myself included) have seen him put his body on the line on numerous occasions, the marshalling of the defence, the leadership he displays at training, he is actually playing game after game himself for a change, it is not surprise that the defence as a unit has gone up a level again

He can improve, but saying something as insincere and damning as 'he is not Nathan Jones' bootlace' doesn't help your argument.

If we are 2 points up against the pies with 30 seconds to go I just hope he is nowhere near the ball or worse someone gives it to him. Just make sure his opponent doesn't get near the ball as well, thats all I ask.

I would give Grimes or Terlich a defensive forward run with role this week on Clint Young. He was the pies distributer on Friday night, set up a lot of play from half back.

I wouldn't surprised if two elite kicking half backs are on our shopping list for this off season...

For the record I agree we will be chasing elite kicking, hard working half backs.

But my take on Grimes is that he is a hard worker and one of the best readers of the play in the team. It is just the brain fades that let him down, they are glaring.
