WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ANGUS BRAYSHAW

Pretty scary to think that Petracca is a nice little bonus we get to unwrap next year along with hopefully another good recruiting period, he would have been the number one pick by a stretch of not for the saints need for a key forward.

I didn't say anything different. I just hate tackling stats being raised as a measurement of a player's performance or ability.

Other than taking a look at the top 15 tacklers this season to date and guess what, they are all good players.

Jack Steven

Luke Dahlhaus

Matt Priddis

Marcus Bontempelli

Bryce Gibbs

Stephen Coniglio

Ben Howlett

Joel Selwood

Todd Goldstein

Angus Brayshaw

Nathan Van Berlo

Josh P. Kennedy

Jake Melksham

Maverick Weller

Patrick Dangerfield

Ouch SNAP.

Reference my comments on 1st October. At pick 2 we get Petracca or Brayshaw ... Win either way.

BUT THANKS TO FRAWLEY... its win and win.

Brayshaw is a star and future skipper

And isn't Petracca going to come into 2016 cherry ripe and keen to go.

Brayshaw is not a star now, but it'd be nice if he turned into one.

What would we have done without your guidance..?

And Josh Kennedy is the only one on the list that plays for the best 4 teams, namely Hawthorn, Sydney, Freo and Port, which just proves my point that winning clearances or contested possession is a far more important stat than tackles.

What kind of a peanut are you?

Any one of those players would walk into our side. And have a look at the tackling stats and games won. Have you watched footy before?

Mo64 the ability to tackle well is close to the most important attribute a kid can have, when ken Hinkley took over at port is mantra was if you can't tackle you won't play. Defensive pressure acts win premierships because it stands up in any conditions against any opposition

Brayshaw isn't as good as Kennedy, excellent study.

Close thread, and draft better next year.

Mind is made up already.

HE CAN PLAY.

What would we have done without your guidance..?

Statement of fact. It was a positive you peanut... Dees are in win win position.

Stating the bleeding obvious while giving yourself a groin massage, more like it.

Clearances,

Gold Coast Suns

2 Adelaide Crows

2 Sydney Swans

4 Carlton

5 Hawthorn

6 GWS Giants

7 Melbourne

Contested possessions,

Collingwood 2

Melbourne 3

Adelaide Crows 4

Gold Coast Suns 5

St Kilda 6

Hawthorn 7

Carlton

So according to you Gold Coast or Carlton should be on top of the ladder.

Now what was your point?

Edit: the bottom 4 for Cont Poss- Freo - Port - WCE - Gee

The bottom 4 for Clearances - North - Bris -Ess - Gee

Lies damn lies and statistics!

Titus in his Monday Knee Jerk Reaction makes the call the Brayshaw is already a better player than the bloke we lost to gain pick 3; James Frawley. Now I know it is a satirical piece and Frawley is a 26 year old, 8 year veteran with 146 games and an All Australian guernsey under his belt but is there anyone in Demonland world who doesn't think we are well ahead in this deal?

In just 11 games I think Angus has shown that, along with Hogan, he is a player you can build a team around

Not only do I think we're ahead, but I actually DO think Brayshaw is a better player than Frawley as it currently stands.

Any club would take Brayshaw over Frawley right now.

Frawley was a good player at his best who did the minimum to stay relevant. Brayshaw is what we need.

I suspect that if we hadn't been given pick 3 we'd have used 2 for Brayshaw rather than Petracca. The club were keeping close tabs on him all last year.

Just so grateful we got Brayshaw. It would have been just too painful to see another Wines slip by us. i am simply astounded at the way he has played this year. a first year player who plays with such intensity, dash and footy smarts. We don't have to worry about whether he will develop over the next few years. He has already arrived. Everything seems to come so naturally. A future star and leader is in our midst.

I doubt many clubs would take McCartin at 1 if the draft was held again. Not saying he won't be good, likewise Petracca, but you'd be crazy not to get Gus Brayshaw into your club given the way he's adapted to the AFL. No risks at all, the kid is already a gun.

He plays with a maturity well beyond his years and a physicality well beyond his physical stature.

When viewing the footage of him at TAC level and seeing him run around over preseason, I was thinking there's no way he is going to be able to play this style straight-up in the AFL. Since round one though he has been an animal at the contest and habitually puts much larger, grown men on their backsides.

A pure footballer. Gun.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
