Week in and week out there are some of our players that display a tough and dogged attitude that makes me think they'd make a good NHL player. N Jones and Viney are the two that leap to mind.

Outside of the Demons I'd say J Brown.

Thoughts on players past or present that would belong on the list?

Dustin Martin, Gary Ablett snr, Leigh Matthews, Gary Ayers, John Fidge, Ted Fidge, D Millane, G Yeates, Rod Grinter, would be some that come to mind MapleD.

Hmmm not sure who could skate round and round in circles whilst the puck flies around aimlessly.

So I'd probably take Campbell Brown and Barry Hall so I'd go ok in the fights.

It seems to me the most vital player in the NHL is the goalie. In that regard I'd want a nice squat guy (although average height is over 6 ft) and with incredibly fast reflexes. With courage.

As they say, you go to a fight and a hockey game breaks out.

The team angle. The toughness of some inspires teamates. That and the similarity of get ball / get puck, sometimes without thought to one's own welfare.

ok i see where you're coming from

nhl guys are obviously tough and courageous if not crazy

but i just see much more differences than similarities between the two codes

From last nights game, I reckon Libba might go alright.

I doubt if you could hang on to opponents with those huge gloves on.

Rick Charlesworth?

It is ICE hockey.....how would the $10m new guy at Sydney go?

Same could be said for NHLers. I can think of some very soft players that I have seen in recent years: Ribeiro, Kovalev, the Sedins...I could go on.

I'm a big fan of both sports, but I fail to see many similarities between the two. I would, however, like to see Zdeno Chara have a go at getting a spot on the Dees' rookie list as a ruckman.

True, there are those that shirk their roles in any sport. The comparison I was making wasn't in game style/play, but in the tougjmess and determination required by both sports to be amongst the truly elite.

I went to high school with a player who went on to play in the NHL and represent Canada at the Olympics. As a jumior player he had to live several hours away during the junior hockey season in pursuit of his dream.

It is that dedication to the sport and team that was intended. Essentially, I see it as a compliment to both sports.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
